MS Dhoni, one of the most successful captains in the cricket world, is not only known for his calm leadership and batting prowess but also for his unusual habits off the field. A recent revelation by Gujarat Titans spinner Sai Kishore has shed light on Dhoni’s mysterious method of staying away from distractions, specifically his habit of not picking up his phone before games.

Under the Leadership of MS Dhoni, the India National Cricket Team and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won multiple titles; his leadership style has always been admired. Sai Kishore revealed an interesting story about how Dhoni's mysterious phone habit reflects his ‘detached yet effective’ method of leadership.

Sai Kishore’s Revelation

Sai Kishore shared in an interview (Provoke TV) how Dhoni often left his phone behind in his hotel room when preparing for matches. “I have learnt a lot about this from MS Dhoni. He would never pick up his phone. He used to leave his phone in his hotel room and come to the games. That’s how detached he would be.” 

This unusual practice reflects Dhoni’s dedication to mental focus and avoiding any unnecessary disturbances before games. This detachment from phones and social media is particularly led players to be often glued to their devices. Dhoni’s approach helps him maintain composure, keeping the focus on the match without external noise or pressure.

Sai Kishore’s Inspiration

Sai Kishore, who spent time in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp with Dhoni but didn't play any matches for the franchises, described how watching Dhoni’s detached approach inspired him to rethink his own habits. “I used to ask myself if being involved in social media is needed. So looking at him inspired me, “ Kishore said.

Sai Kishore’s Performance Under Dhoni’s Shadow

Sai Kishore joined the IPL with CSK in 2020 on a base price of Rs. 20 lakh, he was a part of the team for around 2 years but could not play in a single game for his team due to the presence of senior spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana. Later, he moved to the Gujarat Titans for Rs. 3 crore in IPL 2022. 

After joining the Gujarat Titans, Sai Kishore has been doing an excellent job for his team. He excelled as a reliable spinner, picking up 32 wickets in 25 IPL matches so far. He is capable of bowling in powerplay and death overs as well. He has maintained a tight economy rate, and it will be interesting to see him in the IPL 2026.
