Good news for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans as M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has received official clearance to host matches for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The approval comes after a detailed inspection done by the government-appointed committee that reviews all the safety measures and infrastructure in the stadium.
Earlier, it was decided that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru would have a new home stadium in the IPL, and the franchise was exploring the options. But, with more upgrades on safety and infrastructure, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium gets the clearance and will be hosting all the home matches of the RCB in the IPL 2026.
The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be playing the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28, 2026. It’s going to be a high-voltage game between two quality sides in the new edition of the tournament.
Why does Chinnaswamy Need Safety Clearance for IPL 2026?
During RCB's victory celebrations in June 2025, a tragic incident happened in Bengaluru as several fans lost their lives in a stampede. Therefore, International cricket was banned at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and since then, authorities have worked to implement new safety measures and infrastructure improvements to host major cricket events again.
Major Safety and Infrastructure Upgrades
Many important upgrades have been made at the stadium to improve safety and crowd management for large events like IPL matches. The Karnataka State Cricket Association has constructed six new entry gates and widened the existing ones to allow smoother movement of spectators.
The old National Cricket Academy premises near the stadium have also been converted into holding areas for fans that have ramps and temporary shelters to help manage large crowds. Authorities have also improved emergency preparedness by coordinating with the fire department and medical teams.
