2022: In spite of the modern generation's T20I matches being mostly ruled by the batsmen, bowlers too have been a really significant part of a team. Despite it being the batters who've generally been the backbone of their side winning games for their team single-handedly, it's the bowling department which has a key role to play for the team during the majority of the time. 

Sometimes a good spell of bowling, one wicket-taking delivery or even an excellent economical over from the strike bowler is all team needs to make its way back into a seemingly impossible game. The bowlers' task is possibly the toughest which is to keep their team in the game even when the opposition batsman seems to be in the driver's seat altogether. 

Even in the shortest of the game, the bowlers have proved to be extremely significant for their sides with their fantastic execution and performances for their side in crucial situations. It's time for us to have a look at the top 3 bowlers who might be the leading wicket-takers in the T20 World Cup 2022.

3. Yuzvendra Chahal

At no.3 in the spot is 's mystery spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal has been one of the most impressive spinners in shorter formats and especially in the T20Is. His brace economic spells of bowling have been remarkably good to watch recently. 

His sheer ability to choke his runs in addition to regularly picking up wickets makes him a unique choice for the Indian team. The right-arm bowler has picked up 15 wickets in 12 matches for India so far in 2022 with an economy of 7.13. 

The 32-year-old will be desperate to carry on this good performance into the big event of T20 World Cup later this year too.

The second name in the list is Pakistan's star bowler Shaheen Afridi. The left-arm pacer has been one of the game's most prominent rising stars in the last few years and's taken the cricketing world by surprise with his unimaginable swing and pace. 

The youngster has picked up two wickets in his only T20I match this year against . His brilliant wicket-taking form and ability to bowl quality spell towards the earlier phases of the innings make him a major threat to the opposition batters.

Pakistan team and fans will be hoping their young sensation to set the stage on fire in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

He has conceded runs at a fantastic economy of just 5.08 and his best bowling performance so far in 2022 is 4/12 in 4 overs. With a world-class Bowling average of just 8.71, Josh Hazlewood currently is ranked no.1 in ICC T20I bowlers' rankings. 

The 31-year-old will be desperate to deliver similarly impressive performances for his side in the upcoming T20 World Cup too.
