LATEST Update on Kohli-Rohit Retirement? BCCI Source Reveals Truth
It's been a couple of months since cricket fans across India have been wondering: Are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma planning to retire together After the Australia Tour? The two star players of Indian cricket will be playing the three-match ODI series against Australia, which is all set to start from October 19, 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla drops a big hint of Kohli-Rohit's future in ODI cricket after Gautam Gambhir's doubtful response. He slammed retirement speculations as "Absolutely wrong" and "It's their call when to retire, we won't ask anyone to retire."
Gambhir addressed the topic in the recent press conference and said, "ODI World Cup is two and a half years away. It's Important to stay in the present. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are both quality players, and their experience is valuable. Hopefully, they will have a successful tour of Australia."
BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla's POV on Kohli-Rohit Retirement
Rajiv Shukla, in his latest interview, cleared a lot of speculation on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's Retirement. He said, "As far as this being the last series is concerned, it is nothing like that. We should never go into these things. It's up to the players when they will retire. To say this would be their last series is absolutely wrong."
He further added, "They haven't retired, haven't they? Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both playing ODI cricket. They haven't taken retirement, so why are you talking and worrying about their farewell? Don't worry much. BCCI policy is quite clear: we won't ask anyone for retirement; they have to make their decisions themselves."
Kohli & Rohit's Future Plans
It looks like they still want to play for the Indian team and perform; both have been training hard and setting standards for the younger generation. However, there will be lots of pressure on them to perform better than lots of players; otherwise, the retirement question will start flooding again.
But, if both Virat and Rohit are able to perform well, then the chances will be very high that they will play further series and might confirm their spot for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Both have been vocal about their desire to play in the 2027 World Cup, and we can expect that they will play if performance comes from their bat.
