Just four Indian captains have hit centuries in Asia Cup's history, will Suryakumar Yadav write a new chapter?

The 2025 Asia Cup begins on September 9 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. So far, only four Indian captains have scored centuries in the Asia Cup—all in ODIs: Sourav Ganguly (2000), MS Dhoni (2008), Virat Kohli (2014), and Rohit Sharma (2018). In the T20 format, only two centuries have been scored—by Virat Kohli (2022) and Babar Hayat (2016)—but neither as captain. With the 2025 edition in T20 format, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has a chance to become the first captain to hit a century in T20 Asia Cup history.

The stage for the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is almost ready. Participating Teams will soon start arriving in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The competition will begin from the 9th of September onwards and a new champion will be declared on the 28th of September. Meanwhile, you should know some statistics and records which you might not know. Let's take a look at who are those Indian captains who have scored a century in Asia Cup.

So far four Indian captains have scored centuries in the Asia Cup

So far in the history of Asia Cup , there have been only four Indian captains who have gone on to slam hundreds. Although this time Asia Cup is being played in T20 format, the players who scored a century as captain did so in ODI i.e. 50 overs match. The search for the first skipper to score a century in T20 Asia Cup is on.

Sourav Ganguly scored a century as captain in the year 2000

The first name that comes to mind is Sourav Ganguly. Dada had become the new captain of the Indian National Cricket Team in 2000 and the Asia Cup was played that year, at that time it was played only in the format of 50 overs, till then no one knew much about T20 cricket. He slammed a brilliant tom versus Bangladesh that year. After this, when the Asia Cup was held again in the year 2008, MS Dhoni was captaining Team India. That year MSD scored a brilliant chundred versus Hong Kong.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also scored centuries as captains in the Asia Cup

In 2014, when the Asia Cup was played again in ODI format, Virat Kohli had already taken over the leadership duties of the Men in Blue. That year King Kohli scored a brilliant century against Bangladesh.

In 2018, Rohit Sharma was captaining the Indian team. That year he slammed an aggressive hundred versus fierce-rivals Pakistan. These are the four captains who have scored a century for the Indian team while being the captains. Although many Indian players have scored centuries in this tournament, but they were not captains.

Only two players have scored a century in the T20 Asia Cup so far

If we talk about the Asia Cup played in T20 format, it has been organized only twice so far and only two centuries have been scored during this period. But both were not the captains of their teams. When the Asia Cup was held in T20 in the year 2022, Virat Kohli played a brilliant innings of 122 runs in the India vs Afghanistan match. In that match, the command of Team India was in the hands of KL Rahul.

This year Suryakumar Yadav has a golden opportunity

Earlier in the 2016 T20 Asia Cup, Babar Hayat of Hong Kong had also scored 122 runs, but then the team was led by Tanveer Afzal. This time around, the Asia Cup is being played in the Twenty-Twenty format. That is, if Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav scores a century in it, then he will become the first captain to score a century in the T20 Asia Cup while being the captain.
