IPL 2024 Points Table: Five time IPL winners Mumbai Indians on Thursday, 11th April, defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets and registered their second victory of the 2024 Tata Indian Premier League. Chasing a big total of 197 runs, the Mumbai-based team rode on the back of some quick half centuries of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav as they helped MI end the match in less than 16 overs. Ishan brought up his half century in 23 balls and stiched a 101-run opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma for the first wicket.

RCB seamer Akash Deep broke the partnership by dismissing Ishan Kishan for 69 runs. Rohit got dismissed as well after scoring 38 runs but the World’s number one T20i batter Suryakumar Yadav took the responsibility in his own hands and scored 52 runs in 19 balls before Vijaukumat Vyshak got the better of him. The duo of Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya helped Mumbai defeat RCB in just 15.3 overs.

Earlier in the match, fifties from captain Faf Du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik and Rajat Patidar helped the Bengaluru based team recover from a very poor start and post an excellent total of 196-8 on the board.

Having been put to bat first by Hardik Pandya, Bengaluru were struggling at 23-2 in the first five overs as they lost Virat Kohli and Will Jacks in quick succession. Rajat Patidar and Faf steading things up for the visitors as they got involved in an 82 runs partnership for the third wicket. But Gerald Coetzee broke the partnership as he dismissed Rajat Patidar for 50 runs and Shreyas Gopal sent Glenn Maxwell back to the pavilion for a duck which reduced Bengaluru to 108-4.

Faf Du Plessis was the next man to depart, as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed him for 61 runs, but he shared a key stand of 45 runs with Dinesh Karthik.

But DK remained at the crease till the 20th over and played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 53 runs in 23 deliveries and helped his side post 196 runs on the board.

Mumbai’s lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah played an important role with the ball as he took a five wicket haul and gave away just 21 runs in his quota of four overs.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are having a really poor IPL 2024 campaign as they have suffered their fifth defeat of the season against the Mumbai Indians. Their loss against MI means that they have dropped to the ninth position in the overall standings. They have just two points in six games and they have a negative Net Run Rate of 1.124.

Mumbai on the other hand, have moved to the seventh spot and now have two victories in five games and have four points next to their name. Their Net Run Rate of -0.073 has also improved

Rajasthan Royals on the other hand continue to stay at the top of the points table with eight points in five games and a Net Run Rate of +0.871. Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders on the other hand are at the second spot with six points in four games and an excellent Net Run Rate of +1.528. The third and the fourth positions are occupied by LSG and CSK respectively. 

2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad have occupied the fifth position with six points in five games with a positive Net Run Rate of +0.344, followed by the Gujarat Titans at sixth position who also have the same number of points as SRH but their Net Run Rate of -0.637 is lower. 

The Punjab Kings are placed eighth in the overall standings with two victories in five games while the Delhi Capitals continue to stay at the bottom of the table with just a single win in five games.
