Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is not sure about the retention of their vice-captain Suresh Raina ahead of IPL 2021 mini-auctions. According to the close sources to CSK, the management now has some other plans for Raina this time.
Suresh Raina who has been an important part of the three times champion pulled his name back from IPL 2020 which was held in UAE. Raina cited personal reasons for the decision to leave CSK while the actual reason is yet to be revealed.
Some of the players said that Raina was afraid after a few covid-19 cases erupted in the CSK camp. Raina wanted to be with his family and eventually, he pulled back despite travelling UAE with the team.
Following Suresh Raina, spinner Harbhajan Singh also pulled back and CSK faced its worst-ever season in the IPL history. CSK ended penultimate in the points table after completion of league stages.
While the management has made it clear that they will continue to take services of their skipper MS Dhoni but Suresh Raina’s retention is still unconfirmed. The franchise has already made their mind to release most of the senior players due to their poor performance in the previous IPL.
11 Crore is Suresh Raina’s retention price:
If Raina would play the IPL 2020 with CSK then he would eventually become the most probable retention but now his future with CSK is in danger. Earlier, CSK management also removed Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Sing’s name from their official website.
According to the reports of Insidesports, Suresh Raina’s retention amount of 11 Crores may pinch the Chennai Super Kings franchise and is unlikely to retain Suresh Raina for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.
Suresh Raina has contributed a lot in CSK’s success. He has been their highest run-scorer and has played some key knocks in retaining the IPL title thrice.
“The franchise has to take its biggest step. Whether they want to retain Raina or not. His retention amount of 11 crores may pinch somewhere the yellow army. No doubt Raina has contributed most in the CSK’s success over the years,” the source close to CSK told.
