India’s Squad for the Asia Cup 2022: The Asia Cup 2022 is just around the corner and the preparations for the six-nation tournament are already underway. The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be played from August 27 to September 11 in the UAE (Dubai and Sharjah).

The schedule for the tournament has been rolled out by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the deadline to announce the respective playing squad is August 8. Pakistan Cricket Board has already named its squad, while the other boards are yet to reveal.

In this article, we will take you through India’s Probable Squad for the Asia Cup 2022.

India’s Probable Squad for the Asia Cup 2022:

Senior opener KL Rahul is set to make his comeback in the Asia Cup 2022 after a long hiatus due to an injury (sports hernia). Rahul was supposed to reclaim his opening position in the Indian team in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe, but he is not completely recovered and will directly play in the Asia Cup 2022.

It is noteworthy that in the last six T20I innings, Rohit Sharma has been partnered with Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant in the opening slot. India has been testing several players to field a formidable playing xi.

“KL Rahul doesn’t need to prove anything. He is a class player. Whenever he plays T20, it is always as a specialist opener and that would continue. Surya and Rishabh are set to play as specialist middle-order batters going forward,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Interestingly, young pacer Deepak Chahar will make his comeback to the Indian side in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe and is probable to be named in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup.

The selectors are impressed with Deepak’s consistent T20 performance prior to his injury which has kept him away from the game of cricket since the IPL 2022.

Moreover, Chahar can swing the delivery both ways initially and becomes a crucial player to be in the squad. He will be the perfect backup for ace pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“Deepak was one of India’s consistent T20 bowlers before he got injured. He deserves a fair chance and also we need a like-for-like back-up for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Also now that he is coming back, he would need to play a lot of games to get his rhythm back,” the source added.

The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are certain to be named in the Asia Cup squad. Pace bowling all-rounder Harshal Patel’s inclusion is subject to his fitness. He is currently suffering from a rib cage injury.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is also certain to be named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup and even for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Owing to his past exploits and feats, Kohli’s name will be hard to overlook for the selectors.

Moreover, Kohli has got the secured backing of skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid which indicates that the team is ready to persist with Virat Kohli despite his muted form.

“There has been no specific discussions on Kohli’s future in the shortest format and even if he doesn’t have a great Asia Cup, his years of experience and match-winning ability will be difficult to ignore for the marquee event in Australia where experience always rules the roost,” the PTI report stated.
