India’s ODI Squad against West Indies 2022, Shikhar Dhawan to lead: Team India is set to witness another captain as Rohit Sharma has been rested for the upcoming 50-overs series against West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian setup in Rohit Sharma’s absence, confirmed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.

Premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be Dhawan’s deputy for the ODI series.

Along with Rohit, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Mohammad Shami, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Burmah are also rested for the ODI series against West Indies, starting July 22.

Following the completion of India’s tour to England, the Men in Blue will travel to the Caribbean and USA for three ODIs and five T20Is.

Earlier it was expected that as Rahul Dravid had to work with multiple captains in his short tenure as Indian head coach, Rohit Sharma may not get the rest. Moreover, Rohit didn’t feature in the T20I series against South Africa and Ireland. He also missed the recently completed fifth test match against England which indicated that the BCCI may not entertain the idea of giving rest to Rohit.

A similar-faced squad that will be fielded against England in the T20I series will be sent to the Caribbean for the three matches T20I series. Umran Malik is not included in the squad.
