ENG vs IND 2021: Indian Test Cricketer in England tested covid positive, quarantined.

ENG vs IND 2021: Team India in England ahead of the India-England test series suffers a jolt as a player has tested covid positive in his 20 days break post the ICC World Test Championship final.

One of the 23 Indian cricketers present in England, who contracted the virus, has been isolated in his relative’s home.

A couple of reports suggested that the unnamed Indian player has been afflicted with the delta variant of the covid.

The news came out after BCCI secretary Jay Shah sent an alerting email to the Indian management in England in wake of the increasing number of covid cases in the hosting nation.

The Indian contingent was given a 20-day break after the final of WTC and are to assemble soon to begin their practice in Durham.

The covid infected cricketer will not travel with the team to Durham.

India is scheduled to play two practice matches against the combined county XI before they head out to face the senior English team in Nottingham on August 4.

It is worth noting that earlier, the entire England ODI team selected to play against Pakistan was ruled out as a couple of players contracted the virus.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) immediately announced a new bunch of players to play the ODI series against Pakistan and sent the whole previous English squad into isolation.

“I trust you and your family members are doing well and enjoying a three-week break before the tour commences. I have been made aware of the existing coronavirus situation in the United Kingdom,” Jay Shah wrote in an email to Indian management in the UK.

Shah further mentioned that due to the camaraderie shared by the two cricket boards, the Indian players and their families were allowed to take their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in England, earlier this month.

“BCCI’s excellent working relationships with the ECB has enabled us to administer the second dose of vaccine to you and your family members.”

The BCCI secretary further mentioned the impact of the virus on the ECB due to which the cricket board had to field a completely different team against Pakistan.

“The new variant of covid (delta variant) is spreading very rapidly and we are not out of the danger zone. You may be aware that the ECB was forced to field another team to play against Pakistan and even the white ball series between India and Sri Lanka had to be postponed,” Shah wrote.

“In the view of that, it’s in the best interest of everyone that the places of mass congregation, eateries, malls and watering holes must be avoided by you.”
