India won the toss and they batted first at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The Indian Team lost three wickets in the starting ten overs on Day 1 including the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar. However, Skipper Rohit Sharma played a crucial knock on Day 1 and led the Team to a strong position despite losing three wickets at 33 runs.

Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja made a massive 204 runs for the fourth wicket on Day 1 in Indi's first inning at Rajkot. Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs in 196 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes whereas Ravindra Jadeja scored 110 runs in 212 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

After Rohit Sharma got out, Sarfaraz Khan played a good knock of 62 runs in 66 balls in his debut match at Rajkot. However, Ravindra Jadeja is still not out and will continue batting with Kuldeep Yadav on Day 2. From England's bowling department, Mark Wood took three wickets whereas Tom Hartley took one wicket.
