IND vs BAN: Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is only 39 runs behind breaking veteran Virat Kohli’s record in T20Is

IND vs BAN: India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is near to achieving a major milestone, which can level his record in the shortest format with Indian veteran cricketer, Virat Kohli.

The current Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has grown to be an expert in the shortest format of the game as he seems to be only 39 runs behind the likes of great Virat Kohli, to equal his record for joint second-fastest to 2500 T20 international runs.

Following a stunning World Cup campaign, Virat Kohli retired from the shortest format of international cricket in 2024, as the veteran went down with 4000+ international T20 runs, the second-highest in the format behind Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

Virat had the second-highest runs in international T20s, as he scored 4188 runs in his entire illustrious career, only behind the likes of great Rohit Sharma who had 4231 runs in his career which also ended alongside Kohli, post the World Cup win. Kohli, in his career, reached his great feat of 2500 runs in just 73 innings, only behind the likes of Babar Azam who achieved the same feat in just 67 innings.

Surya now has played 72 innings for India and went on to score a pile of runs, as he now has 2461 runs under his belt with a record-shattering 4 hundred for the team as well. SKY already eyes, Rohit’s record for most T20I hundreds for India and now he looks to level up with Virat Kohli as well and is just 39 runs behind the great feat.

The First T20I match between India and Bangladesh was played at the Gwalior Stadium, which brought cricket back to the city after decades since this was the first white-ball international match played on the ground following the last match which featured Indian maestro, Sachin Tendulkar’s iconic 200 in ODI cricket.

This time India won the toss, as SKY pushed the visitors to bat first with Arshdeep Singh sharing the new ball alongside Hardik Pandya. Arshdeep excelled as he produced 3-wickets in the game, and he is approaching the milestone of being India’s first-ever pacer to pick 100 T20I wickets.

Alongside, the new opening pair in Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav added a vital 29 runs off just 14 balls, as he batted stunningly, though Hardik Pandya was the main all-rounder to hand India the win within 12 overs of the match, with a 39-run cameo of just 16 balls. This helped India secure a 7-wicket victory, as India took an early lead in the series with 1-0 at Gwalior.
