IND vs AUS: Team India’s middle order batter, Shreyas Iyer has been added to the India test squad ahead of the 2nd IND vs AUS test in Delhi after successfully completing his rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development on Tuesday (14th February 2023).

Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the opening test match between India and Australia due to a back injury that he suffered a month ago. Owing to the same injury, he also had to miss the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January 2023.

“Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team,” wrote BCCI in a statement released on Tuesday.

“He [Shreyas Iyer] will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second Test of the Mastercard Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” it added.

Iyer’s absence in the test squad paved way for Suryakumar Yadav to make his debut in the traditional format of cricket. What Suryakumar Yadav does in the T20Is is second to none in international cricket. However, the right-handed batter couldn’t translate his dynamic batting in the tests and was dismissed for a score of 8 by Nathan Lyon in Nagpur.

It will be interesting to see who goes out of the playing11 to make a way for Shreyas Iyer, who is an important cog in the Indian batting unit. Team India is anticipated to go unchanged in the second test between IND vs AUS in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium which starts on February 17.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have released pacer Jaydev Unadkat from the Indian squad for the bowler to play in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Final between Saurashtra and Bengal in Kolkata’s Eden Garden. The Ranji Trophy Final will begin on Thursday (16th February).

India’s Test Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul (vc), Cheteshwar Pujara, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, R. Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav
