ICC WTC Points Table Updated after NZ vs SA 1st Test: New Zealand dethroned Australia to reach the top of the dome of the WTC Points Table as they defeated South Africa in the 1st test of the South Africa Tour of New Zealand 2024. India moves to the third spot and this post reads the latest updated ICC WTC Points table after NZ vs SA 1st Test.

Two innings and two hundreds for Kane Williamson in the first test. He has been one of the finest artists when it comes to red-ball cricket. Rachin Ravindra also made hay while the sun shone and knocked a sounding double hundred in the first innings.

Batting first, New Zealand didn’t get a promising start but since Williamson and Ravindra entered the square, they didn’t allow South African bowlers to make more damage. Kane scored his hundred and lost his wicket while Rachin was stuck at the other end. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips added 39 runs each and the double hundred of Rachin helped the home team to post a mammoth total of 511 on the board.

The inexperienced South African team seemed helpless in front of a full-strength New Zealand bowling line-up. Santner and Matt Henry shared 3 wickets each while Jamison and Ravindra shared 2 wickets each, and South Africa were bowled out at 162 runs.

New Zealand could have enforced follow-on but they opted to bat again. Latham and Conway failed again but Skipper Kane smacked another century and that led New Zealand to get a lead of 528 runs and New Zealand declared there.

A slightly better effort by the South African team but that was never going to be enough to defeat New Zealand at their home. South Africa were bundled out on 247 this time and New Zealand won the game by 281 runs.

Following this win, New Zealand have now two wins in three games. They own 66.67 win% and that is the most in the current WTC cycle which means they have acquired the number 1 spot of the WTC Points table.

South Africa were placed third before the series but now, with 2 losses in three matches, they have 33.33 winning% which leaves them at seventh position on the latest updated ICC WTC Points table.

Australia were leading the board with 55 PCTs and now they are placed second. India also slips to third position with 52.77 PCT points.

Sri Lanka have lost both test matches against Pakistan at the start of the season and therefore they are ninth on the table. England is also there at the 8th position with just 25 PTC points after the loss to India in the second Test at Vishakhapatanam.
