Double Blow for Australia! Hazlewood & Abbott Injured Just Days Before Ashes 2025

Australia has faced a double blow just before the highly anticipated Ashes 2025 series. The two key pacers of the Australian Team, Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott, both suffered hamstring injuries during the ongoing Sheffield Shield between New South Wales and Victoria at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Neither of the pacers didn’t came to the field after lunch on Day 3, and this raised serious concern in the Australian camp as the Ashes 2025 is just a few days away. According to the reports, Cricket Australia is carefully monitoring the current situation of Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott.
What Happened to Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott?
During a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria at the SCG, both Hazlewood and Abbott suffered hamstring injuries. Josh Hazlewood reported tightness in his right hamstring and had to leave the field during the play.
Early reports suggest that the issue is minor and the management is taking a precautionary approach, especially Pat Cummins already ruled out of the first Ashes Test in Perth due to back injury. Hazlewood performed exceptionally in the white-ball series against India, so his presence will be very crucial for Australia.
Sean Abbott suffered a moderate-grade hamstring injury; however, Abbott’s fitness is still unclear. He was one of Australia's backup pacers for the first test and likely to play along with Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland.
Skipper Pat Cummins on Hazlewood and Abbott injury?
Cummins said, “There was a bit happening there for an hour or so. They both got scans. Haven’t 100% got across all the details. I think Josh was pretty chipper when he got out of the scans, so hopefully he should be fine. Sean, I’m not so sure about it. I think they are still assessing.”
What about the current Australian bowling unit?
Despite some of the key pacers suffering from injuries, Australia still has a strong pace attack. They have Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland, who are actively playing in the Sheffield Shield. Cameron Green is now also bowling after a long time, and Nathan Lyon is also playing the Sheffield Shield, so all these players are expected to be part of the first Ashes test match.
