T20 World Cup 2021: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra seems to be impressed with Australia?s brilliant display of performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Chopra reckons that the Kangaroos are heading forth ticking all their boxes and are proving to be a strong side in the World Cup.

?Steve Smith?s role will be a little different. He might not come into bat if Australia gets a flying start. The Aussies are likely to promote Maxwell and Stoinis. If they lose early wickets, Smith will come in.?

?England like to play aggressive cricket. They have Jason Roy and Jos Buttler at the top. Both are in reasonable form and Roy played an amazing knock in the last game. Jonny Bairstow batting at four is a big decision the team has taken,? he added.



English skipper Eoin Morgan has been short of runs in 2021. The southpaw displayed a poor show in the IPL 2021 and hasn?t been to his best in recent times, which will be an area of concern.



?But, Morgan?s form is like a perennial issue. It is the issue of 2021, he just hasn?t scored. He is in untested territory and Australia will target him with short balls and yorkers. Don?t see him getting freebies.?



Despite having a reasonable combination of experience and freshness in England?s bowling attack, Chopra rates the Australian attack better and strong.

CA appoints Pat Cummins as captain of Australia?s Men?s Test side.



In an important development ahead of the Men?s Ashes series 2021-22, Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday confirmed the appointment of ace pacer Pat Cummins as the leader of Australia?s Men?s Test team. He will replace Tim Paine from the role.



Cummins has been appointed Australian 47th Men?s Test captain and is the only pacer to be given a full-time leadership role. Earlier, fast bowler Ray Lindwall in 1956 led the Australian Test side in a match, but that was just a stand-in role in absence of the regular skipper.



CA has also brought back Steve Smith to the leadership role as he will be Pat Cummins deputy in the longest format.&nbsp;



The development came a week after Tim Paine, then Australian Test skipper stepped down from his role following the disclosure of the sexting scandal he was a part of during 2017.

It is noteworthy, prior to Tim Paine, Steve Smith was the Australian Test skipper, however, he was sacked from the role after the famous ball-tampering incident in Cape Town. He lost his captaincy and was subsequently banned for 2 years from international cricket.

Amidst all this, Tim Paine has announced his indefinite mental health break from international cricket. Cricket Tasmania in a statement on Friday said Tim Paine will quit all forms of cricket for the ?foreseeable future."



There were long-standing deliberations going on amongst the Cricket Australia (CA) officials whether Tim should participate in the opening Ashes test match against England in Brisbane or now, however, his decision to take a break has put an abrupt suspension to the debate.



?Following discussions over the last 24 hours, Tim Paine has advised Cricket Tasmania that he will be taking a leave of absence from all forms of cricket for the foreseeable future," it said in a statement.

The Ashes 2021-22: Australia led by new leader Pat Cummins thrashed England in the first Brisbane?s Gaba test match of the Ashes 2021-22 by a huge nine wickets. The hosts comprehensively overwhelmed the visitors to go up in the five matches series by 1-0.



Joe Root and Dawid Malan offered a good fightback in response to Aussie?s sensational bowling display, but the two could not do much as they both fell short of their well structured centuries on day four. Root scored 89 while Malan fell on 82 in the second innings of England.



Australian spinner Nathan Lyon picked four wickets while Pat Cummins and Cameron Green got two. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc fetched one apiece to end English innings at the Gaba.

Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bat first, which apparently didn't go well in the favour of the visitors.



Australian bowlers outclassed English batters in mere 147 runs on day one. In English first innings Haseeb Hameed scored 25 runs while Jos Buttler and Ollie Pope scored 39 and 35 respectively to provide some resistance to the Aussie bowlers.



Pat Cummins picked up his maiden fifer as the captain while Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood picked two each. Cameron Green also scalped his maiden test wicket.

In response to England?s mere 147 runs total, Australia opened its attack nicely. Opener David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne stitched a good partnership of 156 runs. Warner scored 94 runs while Labuschange mustered 74 runs.



To take the Aussie lead further ahead, middle-order batsman Travis Head smacked a blistering century on day three. He plundered a massive 152 runs in 148 deliveries to take Australia to 425 runs in the loss of 10 wickets.



England's Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson picked three wickets each while Chris Woakes scalped two. Spinner Jack Leach and Joe Root got one apiece in their bag.



The visitors in their second innings couldn't do better work. The only hope was Joe Root and Dawid Malan who garnered over 190 runs on day three.?



Australian bowlers did fantastic work in the opening session of day four to reduce England to mere 297 runs.?



The hosts were given a target of 20 runs to win the first test match at the fortress Gaba. Australia collected 20 runs easily to end the test match.



Travis Head was adjudged as the man of the match for his scintillating 152 runs knock in less than run a ball.

?A fortunate captain is usually lucky because the players believe he is some kind of miracle-worker and things tend to work out because of the team?s belief,? he added.



Chappell indicated a few recent instances where Root himself proved why he is not an inspirational leader.&nbsp;



?He is not an inspirational captain and this is indicated by the number of times his team work their way into a decent position but can't finish the job. This happened again when, where after conceding 425 in Brisbane, England repeated their mistakes in Adelaide to leak 473 for the loss of nine.?

The fourth test match between Australia and England will begin on 5th January in Sydney Cricket Ground. The final of the series is slated to begin on 14th January.

The Ashes 2021-22: To add more to the Ashes 2021-22 woes, the covid-19 scare has hit the Australian camp as middle-order batsman Travis Head has tested covid positive, five days prior to the 4th Ashes test match. Head is currently asymptomatic and is in isolation with his partner.



It is important to note that, earlier, seven members of the touring party had tested covid positive which include the England head coach Chris Silverwood.



Silverwood is in 10days isolation in Melbourne and will be unavailable for the New Year?s test match in Sydney Cricket Ground. The match is slated to begin on 5th January.



Travis Head is the first player to get contracted with the dreaded virus from either of the camps. The total covid tally in the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 has now reached eight, compounding the strict rules and regulations.



The Australian batsman is the second-highest run-getter in the Ashes 2021-22 after England skipper Joe Root. He has amassed 248 runs in three test matches including a century and a half-century.



Cricket Australia (CA) in a statement informed that daily RT-PCR testing is being done on players and the other members of the ongoing Ashes 2021-22.

?As part of our testing procedures, we are PCR testing players, their families and our support staff daily. Unfortunately, Travis returned a positive COVID-19 result earlier today,? Cricket Australia was quoted as saying in a statement.



The statement further added that Travis Head is likely to be available for the final test match.



?Thankfully, he [Travid Head] is asymptomatic at this stage. We anticipate that he will be available to play in the fifth Vodafone men?s Ashes Test in Hobart,? added Cricket Australia.



?We are grateful to our exceptional medical staff for all the work they have done throughout this series and we will continue to work with and support the players, their families and staff from both teams.?



CA have roped in Josh Inglis, Nic Maddinson and Mitchell Marsh as the covers of Travis Head. All the three aforementioned cricketers are currently plying their trade in the ongoing BBL.?

Australian senior paceman Mitchell Starc, after winning his maiden Allan Border medal following a roaring performance in the recently concluded Ashes, opened up on the rough phase in his cricketing career. The speedster, at times, thought of giving up playing the game due to poor form.



Starc disclosed that he wanted to stop playing the game of cricket in the past two years due to a thin phase in his career. However, the seamer kept his cricket running despite a gloomy show against India in the home test series.



The Aussie pacer was recently crowned with the Allen Border medal, the highest honour from Cricket Australia, for his sublime bowling performance against England in the recently held Ashes, which Australia won by 4-0.



"The last two years, as life is at the moment, there's a lot of ups and downs. You find ways to adapt and what not, but it's a reflection of the support base I have had throughout those two years as well,? told the pacer as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Despite a low phase, Starc kept playing the highest level cricket. He opened up that his support pillars stuck by him and kept him motivated. The pacer specially mentioned his wife, Alyssa Healy, who is also a professional cricketer for Australia, for being his biggest support throughout the pale phase.



?There have certainly been times when I haven't played my best cricket or certainly times over those two years where I didn't want to play any cricket. I'm very thankful for my support networks and in particular Alyssa, to play cricket at the highest level [and] be there to support me as well, I can't thank her enough for that,? he added.



"It goes back to the work you do behind the scenes and the work you put in with strength and conditioning and time spent with physios and what not. A huge thanks to the support staff, particularly [Australian Men's] physio David Beakley to keep me on the park for five Test matches and keep me on the park for five and let me play five," he further added.



Starc was heavily criticised for his below-par performance against India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The pacer could only manage to pick 11 wickets at an average of 40.72. Moreover, his outing in the T20 World Cup 2021 also remained average.?



However, Mitchell Starc did all the talking with his bowling and gave a befitting reply to his critics. He thrived in the Ashes 2021-22, where he scalped 19 wickets at an average of 25.37.



"I went through periods years ago where seeing any criticism or different opinions was almost a bit of a spur for me to stick it up to them, but a couple of years ago I made that decision to get away from it all. Think that's helped me stay really level between some really good stuff and not so good stuff and not let it affect me at all," Starc further said.
