Much like other franchises in IPL, Delhi based franchise also went for multiple chances this season. However, DC saw a major overhaul back in 2019 when the name of the franchise was chanced. The franchise in 2019 IPL came up with a new brand identity replacing Delhi Daredevils with Delhi Capitals.

With the change in the name, Delhi’s fortune seems to be changed. In 2019, Shreyas Iyer led the side to the playoffs. Handling the pressure of the captaincy for the first time, Iyer turned tables for the Delhi based franchise.

In the delayed season of IPL, Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals to their maiden IPL Final. Being a consistent performer in the whole edition, Delhi thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second eliminator to face mighty Mumbai Indians in the final. However, Rohit Sharma lifted the cup for the first time but it was a great journey for the young guns in Delhi Capitals.

The forthcoming IPL definitely looks in favour of the Delhi Capitals. With a couple of good signings in the recent IPL auction, Delhi looks solid on paper. The franchise has put its money on Steve Smith,  Sam Billings, Umesh Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Tom Curran, M Siddharth and Lukman Meriwala.

It will be interesting to watch Shreyas Iyer, how he manages the Delhi squad this time with Steve Smith in the bag.

The IPL 2021 is scheduled to begin on 09th April.
