In the last group stage match on September 05, Afghanistan won the match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 4 runs in a close game. UAE's Asif Khan played a fanatastic knock of 40 runs in 28 runs but failed to finish the game as 17 was needed to win the game in the last over.

The Afghanistan cricket story started in Pakistan due to the conflict in the country; many Afghan players learned and played cricket in Pakistan's camps and domestic leagues. Pakistan helped Afghanistan develop its national team by giving technical support and access to its training facilities.

A memorandum of understanding in 2013 allows Afghan players to use Pakistani academies and participate in the local tournaments. However, this relationship didn't last long, and due to the internal politics of both nations, their collaborative relationship turned to zero.

The Afghanistan National Cricket Team has improved their cricket a lot in the past few years, especially in the T20 Internationals. Whereas the Pakistan National Cricket Team is struggling to win at bigger stages due to their internal politics, which later escalated to the border tensions.
