Ben Stokes is in awe of Virat Kohli’s batting brilliance, says “he is greatest player”: England’s premier all-rounder Ben Stokes is in awe of Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli as he responds to Kohli’s comment after announcing his ODI retirement. Stokes said Virat is going to go down as one of the greatest players to play the game in all three formats.

Notably, Ben Stokes threw a bomb as he drew curtains to his memorable ODI career. Stokes announced that he will be playing his last ODI against South Africa on Tuesday in front of his home crowd.

The England cricketer announced his retirement through a social media post to which Virat said that Ben Stokes is “the most competitive bloke” he has ever played against.

“Look, Virat is going to go down as one of the greatest players to play the game in all three formats. He is a phenomenal player. And I have absolutely loved every time I have played against someone like him,” Stokes told Sky Sports.

Stokes further added that he has always admired Virat’s commitment and energy to the game.

“The energy and the commitment that he gives to the game is something I have always admired even before I started playing against him. When you play against guys like that, you understand sort of what it means to not just yourself but for everybody else who was lucky enough to play at the top level.

“I am sure we will have some other battles on the field. It was nice to hear what he (Kohli) said,” said Stokes.

Even though the fans won’t see Virat Kohli-Ben Stokes’s battle in the ODI format anymore, the duo will be in action in the other two formats of cricket.

Notably, Virat continued his dried form in international cricket even in the recently held white ball series against England. The run-machine failed to score in the given opportunities.

Kohli has been rested for the upcoming white-ball tour of the West Indies and the USA. He is expected to make comeback in the Asia Cup 2022.
