Australia captain for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 announced
Australian Cricket Team skipper Mitchell Marsh has confirmed that he will be leading Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. His comments came during the post-match presentation of the fifth T20I against the Indian Cricket Team at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Since the last few series, Mitchell Marsh has been captaining Australia in the white-ball format. Due to the workload management and the red-ball cricket, regular ODI and Test captain Pat Cummins has stayed away from the white-ball cricket.
But with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 around the corner, there have been a lot of speculations around who will captain Australia in the tournament. Pat Cummins, who guided Australia to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 win, will surely be back for the series.
Talking about the series against India, which Australia lost under Mitchell Marsh by a margin of 2-1, Marsh said that despite losing the series, there were a lot of positives for them. He said:
“Can't remember the last time we played and had so many rain interruptions. All in all a great series. India obviously won the games when it mattered, congratulations to them. There's a lot of learning and positives to take forward. The adaptability and flexibility in our group and the squad we're trying to build in a World Cup year have been amazing.”
I think I'll be there - Mitchell Marsh on who will lead Australia in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 between him and Pat Cummins
Mitchell Marsh also pointed out how their full-strength side, which wasn’t there for the series, is settled. When asked who will captain Australia be in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, he said he will be there leading the team in India. He said:
“Guys have come in, done really well, played their roles, that's all we can ask for. Always moving parts in international cricket, especially with the Ashes coming up, but overall great attitude. Our squad, at full strength, is a pretty settled team. The Big Bash is there for the guys to enjoy and hopefully the Scorchers win. Good question (who will captain in the T20 World Cup - him or Pat). I think I'll be there,” he concluded.
