Asia Cup Trophy Drama: BCCI Confirms ICC Official Involved in Negotiations with Mohsin Naqvi

The Asia Cup Trophy controversy has again come into the picture after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that a senior official from the Internatonal Cricket Council (ICC) is now involved in the negotiations process to solve this trophy dispute.
After India won the Asia Cup 2025, they refused to take the trophy from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and also head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Mohsin Naqvi. However, there were other senior members from ACC and other cricket boards, and the Indian team was ready to take the trophy from them, but Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy with him.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the ICC representative is trying to mediate between BCCI and Mohsin Naqvi to reach a peaceful resolution. According to reports, the trophy is kept under lock inside the Asian Cricket Council office.
ICC is involved in the discussion process:
According to PTI reports, ICC Deputy Imran Khawaja and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta played a crucial role in communication between both the cricket boards. As per BCCI officials, the matter is now fast-tracked, and the situation is improving between both the boards.
BCCI Secretary on Current Situation:
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “I was a part of both the informal and formal meetings of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on the agenda, but ICC facilitated a meeting between me and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official.”
He further added, “It was really good to start the process of negotiation. Both sides cordially participated in the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting.”
Why did the Asia Cup Trophy Controversy start?
India refused to take the trophy during the post match presentation after the Asia Cup 2025 Final game. Earlier this year, A terrorist attack happened in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, India, and the attack was carried out from the Pakistan side.
Later, both the nations had little border conflict, which led Indian players to refuse taking the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, as 26 people lost their lives in that terrorist attack.
