Asia Cup 2025-India National Team must be wary of Pakistan this time, needs to avoid the error of the 2022 Asia Cup in the Super4

In the 2025 T20 Asia Cup, India beat UAE and Pakistan to enter the Super Four, where they’ll face Pakistan again on September 21 in Dubai. This mirrors the 2022 Asia Cup, where India won the league match but lost to Pakistan in the Super Four, missing the final. Pakistan eventually lost to Sri Lanka in the final. With similar conditions and venue, India will look to avoid a repeat of 2022, despite Pakistan’s inconsistent form this time.

In the T20 Asia Cup 2025, the Indian team defeated hosts UAE by a margin of 9 wickets in the first league stage match. In the second match, Team India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets. Despite this, Pakistan defeated Oman and then the UAE to advance to the Super Four. Now, on September 21st (Sunday), the Pakistani team will face India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

A similar coincidence occurred during the 2022 Asia Cup , where cricket fans witnessed two thrilling matches between India and Pakistan. That tournament, played in the UAE, also had a T20 format. Both matches (the league stage and Super Four) between India and Pakistan were played at the Dubai International Stadium.

In the Asia Cup 2022, India won the league stage match against Pakistan by 5 wickets. However, they lost to Pakistan by 5 wickets in the Super Four. India failed to reach the final of that tournament, as they also lost to Sri Lanka in their second Super Four match. Pakistan, on the other hand, reached the final, where they were defeated by Sri Lanka by 23 runs.

Hardik led India to a memorable victory in the league stage.

The first match of the Asia Cup 2022 was played at the Dubai International Stadium. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for just 147. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored for the team with 43 runs. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took four wickets and Hardik Pandya took three wickets for India.

This small run chase wasn't easy for India. The match went down to the final over, thanks to tight bowling from Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja scored 35 runs each. Hardik Pandya smashed the winning six in the final over to give India a memorable five-wicket victory. He played an unbeaten of 33 off 17 balls.

Rizwan's innings proved to be a huge problem in the Super Four.

The Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2022 witnessed another thrilling clash between India and Pakistan. In that match, played at the Dubai International Stadium, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 181 for 7. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 60 off 44 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma and opener KL Rahul contributed 28 runs each.

In response, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan played a brilliant innings of 71 runs. The biggest game-changer of the match was Mohammad Nawaz, who scored 42 runs off 20 balls to bring his team close to victory. Like the league stage match, this match also went to the last over, where Pakistan won with one ball remaining.

The Indian team will not want to repeat the 2022 Asia Cup, where they won the group stage but lost to Pakistan in the Super Four. This time, the Pakistani team does not appear to be as strong in the Asia Cup. Nevertheless, India will not want to take them lightly even in the Super Four stage.
