The hunt for the new coach of the Indian team is on. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are looking for a new coach as Rahul Dravid’s contract ended. The former Indian skipper’s tenure ended following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023

With Rahul Dravid’s contract coming to an end, BCCI offered T20I coaching to Ashish Nehra. However, as per the reports in the Indian Express, it is learned that the former Indian fast bowler declined the offer and wasn’t keen to take the responsibility. 

Ashish Nehra has proved his worth as a coach in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under him, Gujarat Titans won the tournament in 2022 and then finished up as a runner-up in 2023. He has been terrific as a coach and under BCCI’s radar.

Ashish Nehra was offered just the T20 coaching whereas BCCI had some other coach in the radar for the remaining two formats. Had Nehra accepted the offer, it would’ve been a good thing for the Indian Cricket Team, considering the T20 World Cup 2024 is around the corner. 

Ashish Nehra’s coaching style has been praised by many. The former fast bowler has allowed players to play freely and hasn’t added any pressure on them. Players of Gujarat Titans have been speaking very highly of him and his experience is something that sets him apart from others. 

BCCI offers an extension of the contract to Rahul Dravid till the T20 World Cup 2024

After Ashish Nehra declined the coaching post, BCCI offered an extension of the contract to Rahul Dravid till the T20 World Cup 2024 as per the reports in Indian Express. It is learned that captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are in favour of extending his contract. 

The reports added that if Rahul Dravid accepts the offer, the core of the support staff like bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour will also be given new contracts.
