Rating WPL teams based on their strengths: From defending champions RCB to first title winners Mumbai Indians, check who has the most strengthened order of players in WPL 2025

The Women’s Premier League (WPL), an IPL-like franchise-level competition held in India by the Women’s Cricket Management wing of the BCCI, which started in 2023, has attracted viewers and players from around the world. 

Legendary women cricketers across different nations have come in to appear for the five different IPL franchises as the WPL awaits its mini-auction with minimum slots remaining for every team and also a minimum purse amount left from their main purse of INR 15 crores. 

Let’s rate the teams on the basis of the players retained by each franchise:

Royal Challengers Bangalore 

Rating: 8/10 

The RCB women have done what the men’s team could not give their fans in so many years in the IPL, as they won the title in 2024. The defending champions have retained their core team with the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Shreyanka Patil, and Richa Ghosh. 

Their latest inclusion through the draft has been Dani Wyatt, the English opening batsman known for her commendable performances in limited-overs cricket for England. 

Have a fair bit of openers in skipper Mandhana and Wyatt, followed by an experienced middle order with Perry and Devine, while also the likes of Wareham and Richa Ghosh also add power to their tail. 

UP Warriorz

Rating: 6/10

The Warriors have never had the best of WPL seasons despite a quality squad consisting of several big names who performed occasionally well. Skipper Alyssa Healy leads the power-packed batting unit, comprising Australian all-rounders Grace Harris and Tahila McGrath. 

Sri Lankan all-rounders Athapattu, Ecclestone, and Deepti Sharma are among the other big names and rather the most in-form players who can be the game-changers for UP this season. 

Gujarat Giants

Rating: 5/10

Despite having the current generation's three most sensational top-order batters in the world, the Gujarat Giants have always fallen short of a WPL final; they will be confident this season to bounce back. 

With the considerable form of Phoebic Lithfield and Laura Wolvaardt, the Giants can look to rebuild their all-rounders and bowling deck a bit, which would make them a relatively stronger side for the upcoming season. 

Delhi Capitals 

Rating: 9/10

The Delhi Capitals can undoubtedly be said to have the strongest WPL lineup; they just proved it with two consecutive WPL appearances in the finals. The Capitals have the most power-packed batting unit with their top three in Lanning, Shefali, and Jemimmah. 

While their middle order looks very decorated with the amount of international talent they possess, they will be in the quest for bowlers since they have only retained all-rounders for the purpose. 

Mumbai Indians 

Rating: 10/10

A team to fear just by watching them on the team sheets, as the 2023 champions can be undoubtedly said to have the most dynamic squad, especially with their bunch of all-rounders. 

Amy Kerr, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Nat Sciver Brunt, after all this amount of power-packed hitting, also possess the likes of players Shabnim Ismail and wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia.
