The Big Question: Will India vs Pakistan Happen?

Good news for fans! Reports suggest that India and Pakistan are very likely to play at least twice in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is planned to be a T20 event, starting around September 5th and ending on September 21st. 

It will have a group stage and then a "Super Four" stage. If both teams play well, they could meet in the group stage (perhaps on September 7th) and again in the Super Four (around September 14th). A final match between them is also possible.

Host Nation and Venue Confusion

India is officially set to host the Asia Cup 2025. However, because of ongoing differences between India and Pakistan, neither team wants to travel to the other's country. This means the tournament might use a "hybrid model." 

Under this plan, all India vs Pakistan matches, and perhaps all of Pakistan's games, would be played in a neutral country. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), especially Dubai, seems to be the most likely place for these important games.

Behind the Scenes: Talks and Tensions

Despite the plans for matches, there is still much uncertainty. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which organizes the Asia Cup, has not yet released the final schedule. This delay is partly because of political tensions between India and Pakistan.

A big point of disagreement is about where the ACC's main yearly meeting should be held. It was planned for Dhaka, Bangladesh. But India's cricket board (BCCI) did not want to send its members to Dhaka, mentioning ongoing issues with Bangladesh. 

The BCCI asked for a change in venue, but this request was not met. Some reports say that the head of the ACC, who is also from Pakistan's cricket board, is putting pressure on India. If the meeting stays in Dhaka, India might refuse to attend, and this could even put India's participation in the Asia Cup at risk. 

On the other hand, if the meeting venue changes, Pakistan might then consider not playing.

Ongoing Uncertainty

The confusion runs deep. Even a recent match between former players from India and Pakistan had to be cancelled due to strong public feelings and some Indian players deciding not to play. Also, a series of matches between India and Bangladesh that was planned for August 2025 has now been moved to 2026 because of these tensions.
