The TATA IPL 2023 is nearing, and the cricketing world is expecting the tournament to be as exciting as ever. With 10 teams in the mix, we will be having many memorable games this season. There are a few innings in TATA IPL history that will live on in the minds of all cricket fans. Brendon McCullum’s inning in the first game of the TATA IPL is hard to forget! Chris Gayle’s 175 is also an inning for the ages. So, which are the most memorable and impactful innings in TATA IPL history? Here is a look:
Corey Anderson’s Innings Against Rajasthan Royals in one of the Best in TATA IPL History:
Corey Anderson was more like a one-season wonder in the IPL. But he left a huge impact on the IPL with his elite performance in 2014. In the last league match of TATA IPL 2014, Anderson took Mumbai Indians to a historic win. This match is undoubtedly the best match in IPL History.
It had drama, it had emotions, and it had excellent batting too. At the center of it was Corey Anderson, the big man from New Zealand. Mumbai wanted to chase 190 from 14.3 overs to qualify. Corey Anderson came in to bat at number 3 and went mad. He was hitting sixes for fun. He took the Mumbai Indians home scoring 95 runs from 44 balls and remained not out. The game had Ambati Rayudu shedding tears, and Aditya Tare hitting the iconic six. A true cricket fan remembers this match very well!
Brendon McCullum’s Innings in the First Ever TATA IPL Game:
What made the IPL brand what it is today is that one inning from Brendon McCullum. After McCullum smashed 158 runs from 73 balls, we can see a very happy Lalit Modi smiling over the masterpiece that he had created, titled the IPL. The Indian cricket fans had not seen batting like this ever before. McCullum recalls Sourav Ganguly telling him that “Brendon post today you will be a brand in India!”. The innings included the dynamic style of play that McCullum believes in. He was attacking from the word go!
Chris Gayle 175 against Pune Warriors India in TATA IPL 2013:
One cannot simply forget Chris Gayle hitting every PWI bowler out of the park at the Chinnaswamy in that game. This will go down as one of the best innings in the history of the TATA IPL. Chris was smashing the bowlers left right and center. He hit 17 sixes and 13 fours in this iconic inning. He took 29 runs off from one over of Aaron Finch and scored at 22.5 runs an over off Ali Murtaza a domestic Indian batter.
Suresh Raina’s 87 off 25 Balls Against Punjab Kings:
Suresh Raina will still regret getting run out in that game against the Punjab Kings in 2014. He was batting on another level. He scored 30 runs in an over from Parwinder Awana. Post which Awana, a candidate for the national team, never came back to the IPL stage. Raina’s batting was so brutal that it tarnished the young pacer’s confidence. Raina did most of the damage in the powerplay overs itself. Earlier Punjab had scored 226 runs thanks to a Virender Sehwag 100. But Raina’s inning was not enough to take his team over the line.
- Shane Watson’s Hundred in the TATA IPL 2018 Final.
- Kieron Pollards 83 of 31 Balls Against Punjab Kings.
- Hardik Pandya’s 91 of 34 Balls Against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Virat Kohli’s Hundred in a 15-Over Match:
Virat Kohli’s hundred in the 15-over match against the Punjab Kings was an inning to cherish for ages. What makes it more special is the fact that it was scored in the year 2016, a year that is considered Virat Kohli’s prime. Further, he had 8 stitches on his hand and was advised to take a rest for this game. But that did not stop this man to walk out to bat and dominating. He scored 113 runs off 50 balls. In this inning, he hit 8 sixes and 12 fours.
