<p><strong>ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023: </strong>The eighth edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on February 10. The women's tournament will be hosted by South Africa, the country which hosted the inaugural season of the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka and the tournament hosts South Africa will square off in the season opener.</p>



<p>The tournament's eighth season will take place in South Africa from February 10 to 26. Games will be staged in Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, and Paarl. The U19 women who made history by winning the first U19 Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa last week will definitely boost the senior Team India's confidence.</p>

<p>The defending champion is Australia, who has won the ICC Women's T20 World Cup five times. Australia defeated India by more than 80 runs in the tournament's final in the Women's T20 World Cup 2020. Once again, Australia are the obvious favorite to win their sixth championship this year. </p>

<p>The women's World cup has seen the end of the Group stage now. The separation of teams in the points table is now crystal clear. Australia winning all four matches and India vs England were the main highlights of the week. Australia and South Africa from Group 1 and India, and England from Group 2 have qualified for the semifinals.</p>

<p>Group 1 has seen a lot of alteration this week. After two back-to-back poor shows, New Zealand finally got some forward momentum by winning the next two matches with a healthy margin but still, they were left behind due to low NRR. Sri Lanka started well to the tournament with two consecutive wins but lost the winning mantra after two matches. Now South Africa will play the semifinal match against England.</p>



<p>India lost to England and Pakistan lost to West Indies. England have won 4 out of 4 and are at the top of Group<a href="https://www.t20worldcup.com/standings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> 2</a>. England have booked their spot for the semi-finals one match earlier and now they have consolidated the first position. India have also booked their semifinal slot by beating Ireland by 5 runs (DLS method)</p>



<p>The picture is now clear. Australia topped Group 1  and have qualified for the semifinals and South Africa are no.2 and they have also managed to achieve 4 points at the end of the group stage. England and India are no. 1 and no. 2 respectively in Group 2.</p>

<p>India qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Ireland by 5 runs (DLS) in a rain-shortened match, although it wasn't a particularly convincing victory because concerns about the batting unit still exist. The typically explosive Shafali Verma hasn't shown her true colors. She had 33 off 25 against Pakistan, 28 off 23 against West Indies, 8 off 11 against England, and lastly 24 off 29 against Ireland.</p>

<p>India lasted second in Group 2 on the points table and Australia stood in the top spot of Group 1 with 4 wins. Australia and India are most likely to meet in the semifinals. Meg Lanning's squad had already clinched a spot in Thursday's semi-final, where they will take on India who finished second in Group B.</p>



<p>England beat Pakistan by a handy margin and topped group B, which implies they will face South Africa in the second semifinal. India will face Australia in the <a href="https://www.t20worldcup.com/news/3075929" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">semifinal</a> 1.</p>

<p>As fans had anticipated before the match, India's victory was anything but straightforward. In reality, the difference was only 5 runs, therefore it could have also ended otherwise as well.</p>



<p>India's leading scorer, Smriti Mandhana, was dropped three times throughout her innings, and the left-hander made the Irish pay with her 87-run knock from 56 balls in the team's 155-run total. 19 runs off 12 were scored by Jemimah Rodrigues.</p>

Both of Shafali Verma's and Harmanpreet Kaur's innings, which saw each player score 24 off of 29 and 13 off of 20, would have cost India the match. Before play was halted by rain and no further play was permitted, Ireland were 6 runs behind the DLS score and they lost it there.</p>



<p>Laura Delaney, the captain of Ireland, claimed three wickets, and Orla Prendergast claimed a pair. After losing two wickets in the opening over of the chase, Ireland launched a counterattack against the Indian spinners, hitting a 53* runs stand with the help of skipper Delany and opener Gaby Lewis. Rain interrupted the game just as they were getting aggressive, and the game never restarted.</p>

England beat Pakistan to finish the league stage at top of the table in Group 2.</p>

<p><strong>The dream of winning the World Cup has been</strong> <strong>broken again as Team India lost to Australia in the semi-final match.</strong> The first semi-final match of the Women's <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/women-t20-world-cup-clash-of-the-titans-the-world-is-set-to-see-a-new-face-as-champions-of-the-womens-t20-world-cup-as-south-africa-women-and-new-zealand-women-emerge-as-finalists/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> took place today between India and Australia at the Newlands Stadium in South Africa, in which India lost by 5 runs. The Australian team reached the semifinals by winning all four of its games in Group 1, while the Indian team advanced by winning three of its four games in Group 2. The Indian team won against Pakistan, the West Indies, and Ireland but lost to England. But the sad news for Indian fans is that the journey of the Indian team ended in the semi-finals today.</p>



<h2>Match Highlight</h2>



<p>Australian captain Meg Lanning decided to bat first winning the toss. The Australian team scored a total of 172 runs in 20 overs. Australian opener Beth Mooney top-scored with 54 while skipper Meg Lanning scored 49. The bowling of the Indian women's team was simple, Shikha Pandey took 2 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs from India. The same Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma got one wicket each. </p>



<p>India needed 173 runs in 20 overs for a ticket to the final, but the team had to face defeat by 5 runs. The Indian top batting order did not perform well; opener Shafali Verma scored 9 runs while her fellow opener Smriti Mandhana could score only 2 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team's captain, scored the most runs (52). She scored 52 runs in 34 balls with the help of six fours and a six. The same Jemimah Rodrigues scored 43 runs in 24 balls with the help of six fours.</p>

<p>India Women are currently on a tour of Bangladesh for a T20I series where India are dominating over the home side in the 5-match T20I series with a 0-3 scoreline. </p>

<p>Coming to the teams, fixture, and format, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be played between 10 teams. The 10 teams are divided into two groups- Group A and Group B. </p>



<p>The 10 teams will then play in a round-robin fixture within their groups and the top two teams from both groups after the completion of the Group stage will head to the semi-finals of the tournament. ICC is known to keep the fixtures and format clean and sorted and this is another example of it.</p>

<p>India Women began their campaign with a disappointing loss against the New Zealand women, who also made history with a win over India Women after years in the World Cup. <br> <br>However, they advanced into commanding form as they earned a great win over arch-rivals Pakistan and were followed by another dominating win over Sri Lanka women, the Asia Cup champions. The win over the Lankan women gave them the higher net run rate over New Zealand, which in turn handed them the second spot in the points table. <br> <br>With Lankan women out of contention for the semis having not won a single match, Pakistan women largely depend on two other teams in India <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/women-t20-world-cup-clash-of-the-titans-the-world-is-set-to-see-a-new-face-as-champions-of-the-womens-t20-world-cup-as-south-africa-women-and-new-zealand-women-emerge-as-finalists/" title="and New Zealand women" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">and New Zealand women</a> to return into contention. <br> <br>After New Zealand?s latest win over Sri Lanka, there has been immense clarity on what intent either team shares upon qualification, as both India and New Zealand are looking to increase their run rate. <br> <br>The Aussies are way ahead in run rate, and even if they lose their final match, they stay on top of the table and will advance to the playoffs; hence, the competition for another spot lies between India and New Zealand. <br> <br>However, when the tougher challenge is concerned, India will have to face 6-time defending Champions <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_women%27s_national_cricket_team">Australia women</a> in their final group stage match today, while New Zealand will face the likes of Pakistan women. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How can India or New Zealand qualify for the semi-finals?</h2>

<p>Either India and New Zealand win, hence tying the points between India, Australia, and New Zealand on six points, where the Aussies would qualify owing to their high net run rate alongside the other team who would have the highest run rate. </p>



<p>Both India and New Zealand lose, Australia qualifies, and hence India, New Zealand, and Pakistan tied on points would have to depend on the higher net run rate for the only spot in the semis. </p>



<p>Either team from India or New Zealand loses their match while the other wins, thus helping the other team to qualify straight into the semi-finals with an easy 6 points. </p>

<p><br>The second scenario seems far more complex; if India bats first and Kiwis chase, India wins by 1 run, then New Zealand would have to win by 14-15 balls remaining. If India can extend their win margin to 10-20 runs, then New Zealand would have to keep a 20-32 ball margin to lead their way into the semis. <br> <br>India chases while New Zealand bats first; if India manages to win with no balls remaining, then New Zealand will have to secure a win by at least 20 runs. With India finishing their chase early on, tougher it gets for the Kiwis. <br> <br>With both teams either batting first or chasing India?s win margin by 1, 10, or 20 runs, the Kiwis need a margin of 17, 28, or 38 runs to secure their position. If India ceases their chase within an over or two remaining, the Kiwis will have to end their match before 4 to 5-overs of the game. <br></p>
