Vivo IPL 2021: Sri Lanka?s two recent signings for the IPL, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera, have been given clearance by the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) to feature in the remainder of the IPL 2021. Hasaranga and Chameera granted NOC on Sunday and will soon travel to the UAE to participate in the glamorous Indian T20 league.



Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed the two cricketers after a couple of their overseas players pulled out citing personal reasons. Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera will replace Adam Zampa and Daniel Sams in <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/ind-vs-aus-indian-skipper-for-the-first-test-jasprit-bumrah-hints-at-shamis-probable-inclusion-into-the-squad-for-the-border-gavaskar-trophy/" title="the squad for the" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">the squad for the</a> remaining matches.



"The permission for the players was granted by the SLC in consultation with the Technical advisory committee,? said Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a statement.

"The 'No Objection Certificate' to the duo was issued for them to join the IPL teams starting from 15th September (following the completion of the South Africa Tour of Sri Lanka)," it added.

Both the players will rejoin their national squad on October 10 to play two warm-up matches before featuring in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Qualifiers.



It is noteworthy that the RCB, on Sunday, landed in the UAE and will undergo a six days isolation prior to the beginning of the training for the Indian Premier League second half.

Virat Kohli led RCB will square off with Eoin Morgan led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to begin their IPL campaign in Abu Dhabi on 20th September.

He made the decision to focus on his limited-overs career, where he is one of the world's top bowlers in the T20 format.



Hasaranga made his Test debut for Sri Lanka in 2020 and played four matches in total. He took four wickets at an average of 100.75. However, he was much more successful in limited-overs cricket, taking 91 wickets in 58 T20Is and 67 wickets in 48 ODIs. He is currently ranked third in the ICC T20I bowling rankings.



Hasaranga's retirement is a big blow to Sri Lanka's Test team, who is already struggling in International Cricket. However, it is understandable, given his desire to prolong his career in the shorter formats. He is a valuable asset to any T20 and ODI team and will surely be in demand in the upcoming franchise tournaments.



"I have decided to retire from Test cricket in order to prolong my career as a limited-overs specialist. I have enjoyed my time playing Test cricket for Sri Lanka, but I feel that this is the best decision for me at this stage of my career. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), backed by Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, have raised concerns and demanded action for refusing to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the Indian Team.
PCB Chief and Pakistan interior minister Mohsin Naqvi want the BCCI representatives to come to Dubai and take over the trophy from him at his office only. Whereas BCCI doesn't want to take over the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, they want the Asia Cup trophy to be handed over to the ICC or the BCCI office. 
<h2>What is the Asia Cup Trophy Drama All About?</h2>
The controversy started after the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy presentation ceremony when Indian Team Skipper Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the trophy from ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. India refused since Naqvi is also Pakistan's interior minister, and tensions were high between both nations after the Pahalgam terror attack, which was supported by Pakistan.
Mohsin Naqvi took away both the trophy and team medals, and now, the trophy is locked inside the <a href="https://www.asiancricket.org/">ACC</a> headquarters in Dubai. The Indian Team celebrated the victory with an imaginary trophy after the post-match ceremony.
<h2>BCCI's firm stand and Support from other Nations:</h2>
Naqvi wants the BCCI Official to personally collect the Asia Cup trophy from him. But, BCCI rejected Naqvi's demand, and they want the trophy to be officially and unconditionally delivered to India. 
BCCI Secretary, with Support from the Sri Lankan Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board, wrote to Naqvi to hand over the trophy to the BCCI. All three boards condemned Naqvi's behaviour and demanded accountability from the ACC President.
<h2>ICC Involvement and Possible Action:</h2>
BCCI has reported the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Asia Cup trophy controversy is expected to come up in the ICC's November meeting. Boards have demanded disciplinary action against Naqvi.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Team pulls out of their tour of Pakistan after the bomb blast in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/india-women-vs-sri-lanka-women-t20i-series-full-schedule-squads-match-timings-and-how-to-watch-live/" title="Sri Lanka" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">Sri Lanka</a> was touring for a three-match ODI series and a tri-nation T20I series involving Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.  Following the incident, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board decided to quit the ongoing Pakistan series due to safety reasons.
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, a suicide bombing in Islamabad killed at least 12 people and injured many others. The Blast occurred only about 17 km from the stadium where Pakistan and Sri Lanka played the 1st ODI match on Monday. Despite the terror incident, the match was still played in Rawalpindi and Pakistan won by 6 runs.
However, the Sri Lankan Team was shaken up by this incident. This would have revived the memories of the 2009 terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, which led to Pakistan being sidelined from hosting international cricket matches for nearly a decade.
According to reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohsin_Naqvi">Mohsin Naqvi</a> personally met the Sri Lankan players and team management after the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI and gave full assurance of security to all players for the entire tour.

This incident shocked everyone and caused fear within the Sri Lankan cricket squad, who are currently in Pakistan. Several Sri Lankan Players informed the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board about their decision not to continue the tour. As per the reports, Many of the players came in support and demanded to return home immediately.
