<p>Notably, team India will take guard against New Zealand in the remaining two ODI games on January 21st and 24th respectively and the next set of matches in the Ranji Trophy will also begin on the 24th of January, which makes it a perfect setting for the Indian batter to hone his skills before the ultimate test against Australia.</p>



<p>It is important to note that, Virat has already regained his form in white ball format and is enjoying a wonderful time in the middle, however, his bat hasn't talked a lot in the tests yet since his pale patch. Despite scoring brilliantly in the ODIs, Virat Kohli couldn't do any good in the test series against Bangladesh.</p>

<p>With ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final position at stake, the upcoming India vs Australia test series is going to see a tough battle between the participating teams as they gear up to steal their places for the epic final, later in the year. The four-match India vs Australia test series, popularly known as the Border Gavaskar Trophy, is scheduled to begin on February 9 in Nagpur.</p>



<p>Team India rewrote history when last they met Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Despite being depleted due to multiple injuries, the Indians rose up to the expectations and conquered the fortress Gabba in Brisbane to seal the four-match series 1-2. </p>



<p>Notably, the forthcoming test series against Australia will decide India's position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. If India manages to conquer Australia on home soil, they will be through to the final of the WTC, however, a loss would result in either Sri Lanka or South Africa making it through to the final. </p>

He missed the test squad against England and Bangladesh due to injuries, however, this time the prodigy batter is fit and raring to play the BGT. He will be partnered with KL Rahul in the opening position, who is also the vice-captain of the side. </p>



<p>Rohit's test numbers have soared after he was asked to open the innings. In fact, India's success in England in 2021 was highly pinned on the openers who made a solid opening stand. </p>

<p>Former skipper Virat Kohli will be in the fourth position. Although Kohli has seen flourishing moments in limited-over cricket, he is yet to redeem himself in the tests. He missed the opportunity to make it big against Bangladesh and could only score 1, 19* and 24 and 1 in the two-game test series.</p>



<p>Shreyas Iyer will be in the fifth position in India's test playingXI. Iyer made most of the Bangladesh test series and scored big runs to seal a spot for himself on the test side. The batter played 87, 29* and 56-run knocks in the two test games.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Modi's spiritual mentor was Swami Dayanand. In order to meet with Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the PM personally traveled to his ashram in Sheesham Jhari, Rishikesh. Kohli and Anushka initially visit Dayanand Saraswati's grave before arriving at his ashram, they also spent 20 minutes in meditation.</p>



<p>Later, Swami Sakshatkrita Nand Maharaj, the head of the Dayanand Ashram, bestowed his blessings on Kohli and Anushka as well. He will spend the night in the ashram. Apart from that, all three consumed food that was made in the ashram kitchen. All three of them ate bread, vegetables, khichdi, and curries throughout this time.</p>

<p>Prior to the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli also went on a visit to Vrindavan with Anushka and Vamika. All three of them received Shri Parmanand ji's blessings at Vrindavan during this time. Kohli put on an incredible performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after his return from Vrindavan. <p>While there should be no complains about a batter averaging 25 in T20Is, it's the strike rate that is disappointing. An "explosive opener" is expected to make the most of the powerplay, which Kishan clearly hasn't been able to. In fact, his strike rate in the power play plummets to <strong>113.62</strong>. <p>As you can see, the record plummets to fairly ordinary numbers. Although one can argue that the sample size is not huge; and after all, this is after we've cherry-picked and taken out his best innings. Yet, there is a counter argument to that. And that is Kishan's List A record.</p>

<p>Again, a modest record without anything remarkable really. And as a matter of fact, 90 games is a huge sample size even if the first of those was played back when he was a 15 year old. </p>



<h2 id="kishans-selection-in-the-test-squad">Kishan's selection in the Test squad</h2>



<p>Even with his numbers imploring that inconsistency is consistent with Kishan, you understand why teams tend to rate him well in white ball cricket. It is because when he gets going he can single-handedly obliterate opposition's attacks and win you matches. However, his selection in the Test team against Australia is bewildering and unfathomable.</p>

<p>With Rishabh Pant unavailable, KS Bharat - who is largely considered the best gloveman in the country - is expected to take his spot. Bharat, pretty much like Wridhimann Saha, is not the best batter who can keep wickets, but purely the best wicketkeeper. And it makes sense to pick him. After all, you need a skilled keeper on turning tracks and the fact that Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar can bat will allow India to include him in the XI. </p>



<p>Yet, it's hard to understand why would you pick Ishan Kishan as his backup? Here is a look at Kishan's first-class record:-</p>

<p>Neither is Kishan the best keeper in the country, nor is his batting record worth turning heads. In fact, the Jharkhand southpaw has only played <strong>a total of 4 Ranji Trophy matches across last 3 seasons</strong>: Two in 2019/20, none in 2021/22 and again two in 2022/23. Moreover, in the two matches he played this season, he didn't even keep wickets. </p>



<p>Now compare that to, say, Akshay Wadkar who averages <strong>53.31</strong> across 60 first class innings and has been Vidarbha's first choice keeper. (Not to forget the first Test is at Nagpur, Vidarbha's home ground). Or Sheldon Jackson, who averages <strong>48.79</strong> with the bat and is a far superior gloveman. </p>



<p>Perhaps, the selectors wanted a player in the mould of Pant: left handed dasher who can take the game on and turn it on its head. Howbeit, there is the difference of day and night in the first class records of Pant and Kishan.</p>



<h2 id="so-is-kishan-being-overrated-by-team-india">So, Is Kishan being overrated by team India?</h2>



<p>Sports can be funny at times. I am pretty sure, a lot of articles along the same lines were written for Rohit Sharma as well as Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the last decade. Both of them, metamorphosed into players who can walk into any international XI today. Similarly, there is little doubt about Kishan's talent and potential. Albeit, it would not be wrong to say that he hasn't quite delivered as per expectations yet. In the upcoming months, he will have the opportunities to set that right. Though, with many people biting at his heels, those opportunities will diminish fast. </p>

<p><strong>IND vs AUS: Team India starts preparing for Australia challenge for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in Nagpur: </strong>Team India's preparation for the most-anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 has finally started in Nagpur on Friday (3rd February 2023). Some of the players from the Indian squad were seen getting in the groove ahead of the marquee four-match test series against Australia, which starts on February 9.</p>



<p>India vs Australia's four-match test series, famously called the Border Gavaskar Trophy, is slated to begin in Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on February 9. The two sides will then travel to Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the second assignment of the series. The final two games of the four-match test series will be held in Dharmshala and Ahmedabad respectively.</p>



<p>The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Cheteshwar Pujara and KL Rahul were among other cricketers who were seen honing their skills in the nets in the photos shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) across its social media profiles.</p>
