Bangladesh has taken a big decision that has shocked the world of Cricket. They have decided to ban the broadcast of the TATA Indian Premier League on Bangladeshi soil. The Bangladesh government issued a statement saying that it is going to ban the telecast and broadcast of the IPL in the country. The decision to ban the IPL in Bangladesh was taken after their team's ace seamer Mustafizur Rahman was expelled from the IPL. The country's Sports Ministry had requested the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ban the IPL, in response to which this decision was taken.

Bangladesh banned IPL for this reason

Following Mustafizur Rahman 's removal from the IPL, Dr. Asif Nazrul, a member of Bangladesh's Sports Ministry, posted a post urging the Information and Broadcasting Minister to block IPL matches from being broadcast in the country. In his post, Asif Nazrul expressed his displeasure with the treatment meted out to Mustafizur Rahman and stated that disrespecting Bangladesh cricket or any of its players would not be tolerated at any cost.

Bangladesh has also taken this step

The Bangladesh National Cricket Team has previously refused to travel to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup. They emailed the BCCI seeking clarification on the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman. The Bangladesh Cricket Board also emailed the ICC, requesting a change in venue. Bangladesh now wants to play its T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka instead of India, citing security concerns.

Meanwhile, calls for a ban on broadcasting IPL matches in Bangladesh had been gaining momentum, and this has now been confirmed. With this, Bangladesh has joined the list of countries where the BCCI's T20 league is not shown.
