Prithvi Shaw leaves Ajit Agarkar gazing with a swashbuckling knock in the Ranji Trophy

Out-of-favour Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw smashed his maiden Ranji Trophy hundred for Maharashtra as he dominated on Day 3 of the second match against Chandigarh. This marks his first First-Class hundred since February 2024.  

The Maharashtra opening batter Prithvi Shaw moved from Mumbai to the Maharashtra team ahead of this domestic season, and the bid seems to have been a fair deal for the batter. He reached his first hundred in First-class cricket since 2024. 

Prithvi's century came off just 72 balls as he reached the three-figure score in the second innings for Maharashtra. This marked his 14th First-class hundred and first in the 2025 Ranji Trophy. In the previous innings, he was dismissed for 8 runs off 9 balls. 

The 25-year-old former Mumbai batter had started off his Ranji Trophy campaign for Maharashtra with a well-made 75 in the previous game against Kerala. Shaw was dropped from the Mumbai squad last season, before he moved to Maharashtra with an NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Prithvi Shaw crossed the 150-run mark in no time

The Mumbai batter not only got to his hundred with a strike rate of nearly 140, but he also continued the onslaught, which was known to be Shaw's usual way of scoring runs. 

He sailed past the 150-run mark in no time as he smacked the ball alongside Siddesh Veer in a partnership for the second wicket. Shaw's 150 came off just 106 balls, with 20 fours and 3 sixes. He batted with a strike rate of 142.86 in the innings. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad also registered a century in the First innings 

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the former skipper of the Maharashtra side, batted with grace during their first-innings rise against Chandigarh. He scored a promising century and led his team from the front with 116 runs off 163 balls. 

Gaikwad registered his first hundred after he had already scored two half-centuries in the previous game against Kerala. He missed out on a hundred last time with 91 runs under his belt.
