Mohammed Siraj has risen from the ranks. He is one of the players who has traveled from the maidans to the cricket grounds. From once bowling with the “chappals” in the “Maidans” of Hyderabad to becoming India’s strike bowler in the powerplay, Mohammed Siraj has done it all.
He will be playing his maiden ODI at his home ground in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The game will be played against New Zealand, the very team against whom he made his T20I debut. Here is an in-depth look:
Rohit Sharma Showers Praise on Mohammed Siraj:
In the pre-match press conference on the eve of the India VS New Zealand ODI series, Rohit Sharma showered a lot of praise on “Miyan Magic”. He said that his services need to be valued and he is an integral part of the plan for the ODI World Cup 2023. He also said that Siraj is one of the most improved bowlers.
This is what he had to say, “Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen how well Siraj has fared across all three formats. He has improved his bowling; his line and length have improved. He has especially worked on his outswing. Earlier, he wasn’t that renowned for swing, but he has shown his ability to swing with the new ball over the last series. “.
Further, he added, “It isn’t an easy task for any batsman to face the new ball. Siraj has started understanding his bowling and what the team wants from him. Overall, he has become a very good bowler for the team, one who can take wickets with the new ball and in the middle overs. He has also improved his death bowling with the IPL”.
Team India Looking For a Bowler in the Powerplay:
The biggest issue for the Indian Cricket team in the recent past is that it has failed to take wickets in the powerplay overs. Earlier the likes of Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra used to get the job done. But today only Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one bowler who gives us such services. But with the kind of promise that Siraj has shown, we can certainly groom him for that role. Deepak Chahar is one such bowler.
Mohammed Siraj’s Workload to Be Managed:
Mohammed Siraj is an integral part of the scheme of things for the ODI World Cup 2023 and hence his workload is expected to be a little managed. He is also expected to say fit for all 4 test matches against Australia a home. This is what Rohit Sharma had to say about it, “We have to keep in mind that we manage him well, and keep him fresh till the World Cup and for the four Tests against Australia”.
