Mohammed Siraj

India’s Mohammed Siraj has been away from the spotlight in the Indian cricket scenario for quite some months now as everyone is focused on the shorter format games now (because of the upcoming T20 World Cup). However that has not stopped the test-specialist bowler from achieving new heights at what he does the best and thus he has reached yet another milestone today – not for the National team this time but in County cricket.

The Indian pace bowler has finally made his County debut for Warwickshire. The match started yesterday on 12th September and will go on till 16th September. Today, Day 2 of the match was played and India’s Mohammed Siraj made a name for himself and proved his calibre to everyone by picking up 5 wickets in Somerset’s first innings.

His five victims in the first innings included Imam-ul-Haq, George Bartlett, James Rew, Lewis Gregory and Josh Davey. Many will remember that Washington Sundar, another Indian player, had picked up 5 wickets on his County debut as well, about 3 months ago and now Mohammed Siraj has repeated that record. Well, maybe it’s an ‘Indian’ thing to pick up fifers in County matches!

Thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s performance, Warwickshire were able to restrict Somerset to a mere total of 219. As it now stands, they have scored 83/3 and trail by 134 runs. The match might go in any direction from here, to be honest. Another Indian player, Jayant Yadav is also playing alongside Mohammed Siraj in the Warwickshire team in this match.

Mohammed Siraj is currently one of the best test bowlers in India. He has played 14 test matches so far and picked up as many as 40 wickets. He was one of the pivotal parts in many of India’s recent historical series wins and has a long way to go. He might soon become India’s best weapon in the longest format of the game.
