Major SHIFT in Women's Cricket: ICC Increases Women's ODI World Cup to 10 Teams in Major Inclusion Move

The International Cricket Council ICC has taken a very important decision after the immense success of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In fact, in the ICC Board meeting held in Dubai, the number of teams in the Women's ODI World Cup to be held in 2029 has been increased to 10. In a statement issued by the ICC, it has been said that the Board is keen to take the success of the Women's ODI World Cup forward and has agreed to increase the number of teams from 8 to 10 in the next phase of the tournament.
The ICC stated, "Approximately 300,000 spectators attended the tournament in venues, setting a new record for attendance at any women's cricket event. The tournament also experienced a rise in viewership. An unprecedented global record for television viewership was achieved, with around 500 million viewers tuning in from India."

As cricket continues to make a significant impact in the world of multisport, the ICC Board examined the ICC's continued collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (LA 2k28).
It should be noted that India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa participated in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The final of the tournament was played between India and South Africa. India defeated South Africa in the final to win the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 title for the first time.
