IPL 2021: The son of batting great, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was picked by five times champion franchise at the end of the IPL 2021 auction for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs. The franchise said, Arjun is picked purely on a skill basis and he has to showcase his worth in the coming IPL.
The main highlight of the fourteenth edition of the IPL auction was, South African Chris Morris betting big as he creates history by surpassing Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Morris is picked by Rajasthan Royals for whopping INR 16.25 Crores, previous best was INR 16 Crores for Yuvraj Singh in IPL 2015.
All the eyes were on Arjun Tendulkar and he was eventually brought by Mumbai Indians as the last pick of the IPL 2021 Auction.
“We’ve looked at it purely on a skill basis,” head coach Mahela Jayawardene said a video conference.
“There’s going to be a big tag on his head because of Sachin. But luckily he’s a bowler, not a batsman. I think Sachin will be very proud if he could bowl like Arjun.”
Sachin Tendulkar bids goodbye to cricket back in 2013 with over 34,000 runs and 100 tons under his belt. He is also referred to as the God of Cricket.
Arjun Tendulkar made his first-class (Senior) debut last month with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and due to which he became eligible to take part in the IPL auctions. He has also played Under-16 and Under-19 games for Mumbai.
“We have to give him time and hopefully not put a lot of pressure on him. Just let him evolve and work his way up,” former Sri Lanka captain Jayawardene said.
Directors of Cricket Operation, Zaheer Khan also said that the all-rounder is very skilful and hardworking at the same time.
“He will have that added pressure of his father, to which he cannot deny and he will have to live with that,” Zaheer Khan said.
