Young left-arm batter Ishan Kishan can replace Gill in the opening position for the game against Australia. Kishan will be paired alongside skipper Rohit Sharma to open the innings.
In another change, team India is likely to include three spinners into the playing 11 as the pitch in Chennai aids spinners big time. Alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, veteran spinner R Ashwin is expected to feature in the playing 11.
Flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav’s chances of getting a place for himself in the Indian playing 11 are not encouraging, especially with the availability of Shreyas Iyer, who is placed way ahead of Yadav in the pecking order.
