England’s Ollie Robinson cleared to play international cricket following racist slurs.

England’s speedster Ollie Robinson has been granted a green chit to feature for England in the highest order cricket after receiving an eight games ban- five of which have been deferred, confirmed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Saturday.

The cricketer on his debut match came under the scanner of netizens after his historic offensive tweets resurfaced on the internet.

After sorting out the matter, the pacer is all set to play for England in the forthcoming India-England test series, starting August 4.

He was also penalised $4,400 for his old racist remarks.

“Following a hearing on 30 June, the Discipline Commission Panel decided that Robinson should be suspended from playing cricket for eight matches, five of which will be suspended for two years,” read the judgement.

“As regards the three matches which are the subject of immediate suspension, the Panel has taken into account the suspension imposed by the England Team from the second Test against New Zealand, together with two of the T20 matches from which Robinson voluntarily withdrew himself from selection for Sussex due to the impact of these proceedings.

The judgement further stated that the speedster is all clear to play international cricket.

“Robinson is, therefore, free to play cricket immediately.”

Ollie Robinson made an impressive test debut against New Zealand as he scalped seven wickets, but his on-field brilliance was completely overshadowed by his historic tweets.

The panel further said that before coming to the final judgement they took into account a number of factors including the nature, content and the magnitude of audience the tweets reached.

“The Panel took into account a number of factors including the nature and content of the tweets, the breadth of their discrimination, their widespread dissemination in the media and the magnitude of the audience to whom they became available,” they said.

“The Panel also considered there was significant mitigation, including the time that had elapsed since the tweets were posted, and a number of personal references which demonstrated that Robinson, who chose to address the Panel, is a very different person to the one who sent the tweets.

Moreover, Robinson further agreed to spread the social media awareness and speak in the training programmes drawing on his experience.
