Vivo IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals (DC) senior cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday night after the Super Over win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced that he will be taking a break from the ongoing Vivo IPL 2021 due to Covid-19 threat to his family and extended family.

Ashwin said that he will be out of action from Monday, 26th April and might be back to the bubble life once everything boils down nicely.

The senior off-spinner took to twitter to announce his decision and wrote, “I would be taking a break from this year’s IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals.”

He also raised his voice in the previous tweets about the ranging Covid-19 threat in the country and urged everyone to be safe in these testing times.

“Heartbreaking to see what’s happening around my country! I am not in the healthcare fraternity, but my sincere gratitude to each of them. I would also like to make an earnest appeal to every Indian to exercise caution and stay safe,” wrote the cricketer.

The franchise also extends their full support to the player and his families during these tough times. 

“Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to take a break from #IPL2021 to support his family in the fight against #COVID19, with the option to return should things get better. We at Delhi Capitals extend him our full support,” Delhi Capitals (DC) tweeted.

The 34-years old cricketer has got just one wicket in the five games and 19 overs he bowled so far in the fourteenth edition of IPL.

India as of now is recording over three lakhs covid-cases on a daily basis which is the highest toll till now.
