Shreyas Iyer has paid the punishment for his poor run of form in Test cricket. The right-hander has been dropped from the Indian squad for the last three IND vs ENG Tests, having played a part in the first two games of the series.
Shreyas Iyer didn’t look in good touch in the first two IND vs ENG games and bagged failures in all the innings that he played. The batter got starts in all the innings but failed to carry on that as he perished for a low total, getting criticised for his form.
The batter came under a lot of scanner after the South Africa tour. He looked clueless against the moving ball there. It was expected that he would play a crucial role for the team in the Test series against England but it didn’t happen as things got worse for him.
Shreyas Iyer managed just 104 runs in the four innings that he played, with the best of just 35. With no Virat Kohli in the team, it was expected that he would hold the key for the team in the middle order but he gifted his wickets away after having a few starts.
There were reports that Shreyas Iyer had faced groin injury and stiff back and that’s why he hasn’t been named in the team. However, BCCI not giving any official confirmation apart from other media reports has more or so clarified that he has been dropped.
With KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar in the mix, it will be tough for Shreyas Iyer to make a comeback. The batter now is likely to play in the Ranji Trophy and to make a comeback he needs to score runs and do something extraordinary.
