Bhutan cricketer creates world record! Takes eight wickets in a T20 International

Bhutan Cricket Team player Sonam Yeshey created a world record during the game against Myanmar. He picked eight wickets in a match and became the first-ever player in the shortest format of the game to take an eight-wicket haul in a match, registering the best bowling figures in T20Is.

Sonam Yeshey achieved the milestone in the third T20I of the series at the Gelephu International Cricket Ground in Gelephu on December 26. Thanks to his heroics with the ball, Bhutan defeated the opposition by 82 runs. 

After Bhutan posted a total of 127, they needed someone to shine with the ball. And, Sonam Yeshey did exactly that as he took eight wickets that helped Bhutan end Myanmar’s innings on 45 and win the game by a big margin. 

Sonam Yeshey took 8/7  from his four overs. He went past  Syazrul Idrus (7 for 8 for Malaysia against China in 2023) and Ali Dawood (7 for 19 for Bahrain against Bhutan in 2025) to register the best figures in T20I Cricket. It remains to be seen who breaks his record now.
