The Indian Cricket team announcement has become a big event. In recent times India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2022 was chosen. The team featured the return of King Kohli in the team in the shortest format. This cleared all the unnecessary air about whether he was rested or dropped. Jasprit Bumrah has missed out on the squad due to a back injury. But other names were great contenders but missed out. Who are they? Here is a look:
1) Shreyas Iyer Missed Out on the Asia Cup 2022 Squad:
Shreyas Iyer is one name who also missed out on the Asia Cup squad. But it was Shreyas who spoiled his party. Shreyas had a good number of opportunities in the absence of Virat Kohli in the last few games due to injury in England. In the series against the West Indies too, his performances were mediocre.
He was pipped by Deepak Hooda, in the race to be India’s backup middle order batter. Also, Deepak provides a bowling option, which is an added dimension. Shreyas has been kept as a stand-by player option if any player gets injured.
2) Axar Patel Missed Out on the Asia Cup 2022 Squad:
Axar Patel was pipped out of the team by Ravi Bishnoi. The Indian team management is keen on finding a backup option for the in-form Yuzvendra Chahal. If Chahal gets injured they need a bowler who brings in the same dimension. So, who is better than Ravi Bishnoi?
Bishnoi bowls more than 50% of his deliveries as googlies. He is challenging to pick due to his fast round arm action. Axar Patel also provides a batting option and has elite numbers but it’s not about those aspects. It’s about the form of skill. The management off-late has been backing leg spinners.
3) Sanju Samson Missed Out:
Sanju Samson is one of the unluckiest players. Even after doing decently well in the limited number of given opportunities. He was not picked for the Asia Cup 2022. But it is not his mistake or he is not the one to be held guilty. It is just the competition in our nation with over a billion people. The same was the case with Manish Pandey a few years back. Sanju Samson and his case become more critical with the resurgence of Dinesh Karthik. But the skills that Dinesh brings in are way more different than Sanju. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Dinesh Karthik, the team picked have 3 good wicket-keeping options.
