Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI-W started their campaign on a very shiny note with an unassailable win against Gujarat Giants (GG) in the opening game of the WPL 2023. MI-W registered a resounding victory against Gujarat Giants by 143 runs making it a one-sided affair.



The Mumbai skipper led from the front as she smacked 30-ball 65 runs in the first innings. Kaur was rightly complemented by Kiwi batter Amelia Kerr who scored 45 runs in 24 deliveries. Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt laid a solid foundation for the innings further with their 50-run partnership. While Matthews fell three shy of her well-deserved half-century, Brunt scored 23 from 18 deliveries.



Owing to valiant efforts from the batters, MI-W posted a gigantic total of 207 runs, which was definitely a tough ask for Gujarat Giants, who fell well short of the target. GG's only notable contribution came from Dayalan Hemalatha, who played 29 run innings, while all other batters were dismissed on the single-digit score.



Mumbai wrapped up Gujarat's innings in the 16th over at a total score of 64 runs and won the fixture by 143 runs to start their tournament with a win, unlike the Men's franchise.



In the second game of the WPL 2023 Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) by 60 runs. Delhi batters wreaked havoc and piled up a mammoth 223 runs in 20 over. DC skipper Meg Lenning scored 72 from 43 deliveries while Shafali Verma played 84 run innings.



Chasing a massive ask, RCB-W couldn't stitch a long partnership and their wickets tumbled consistently. Skipper Smriti Mandhana remained top scorer at 35 runs while English player Heather Knight scored 34 runs. Eventually, RCB-W could only score 163 and fell 60 runs behind in their opening game.
