<p><strong>India vs New Zealand T20I: </strong>Team India whitewashed the Kiwis in the iconic Eden Gardens, last night, despite challenging themselves going against the odds in the match. Rohit Sharma and Co thrashed New Zealand by three-nil in the three matches T20I series.</p>



<p>After going up in the first two matches, chasing the total, Rohit Sharma again won the toss and elected to bat first to see how the team performs in challenging situations. Indian?s posted a massive total of 184 in the loss of seven wickets, in reply to which, New Zealand could only score 111 in 17.2 overs.</p>



<p>One of the talking points of the game was Venkatesh Iyer?s all-rounder performance. He contributed with 20 runs from 15 balls at the end and also remained economical with his tidy spell of bowling.</p>



<p>Iyer returned with figures 3-0-12-1 in the third match, which was apparently his first time bowling in the international circuit.</p>



<p>Indian skipper hailed the effort from the all-rounder and reckons Venkatesh Iyer?s bowing will be crucial for India going forward.</p>

<p>Following his successful season for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second phase of the IPL 2021, Iyer was awarded a maiden call-up for the national side. <p>The Indian team is scheduled to fly to South Africa on December 16th for the three matches Test and ODI series apiece. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the new leader of India?s white-ball squad, the board is yet to announce the ODI squad for the tour.</p>



<p>It has been learnt that Ruturaj Gaikwad has almost confirmed his ticket for the South Africa ODIs. He is continuing his stellar form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy with three back to back tons.</p>



<p>Gaikwad also won the Orange Cap in the recently held IPL 2021 and now has smacked three consecutive centuries for Maharashtra. He scored 136 runs against Madhya Pradesh, an unbeaten 154 against Chattisgarh and 124 runs versus Kerala.&nbsp;</p>



<p>On the other side, seasoned campaigner Shikhar Dhawan has failed to convince the selectors. His scores in the ongoing VHT remained 0, 12, 14 and 18.</p>



<p>Dhawan is no longer a part of India?s T20I squad. Several young players such as Ishan Kishan, Prithvi Shaw and Ruturaj Gaikwad have already replaced him in the shortest format squad. He was even axed from India?s <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/women-t20-world-cup-clash-of-the-titans-the-world-is-set-to-see-a-new-face-as-champions-of-the-womens-t20-world-cup-as-south-africa-women-and-new-zealand-women-emerge-as-finalists/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> 2021 squad due to his poor form.</p>

<p>If we go by the trend with head coach Rahul Dravid, he likes to give experienced players one final chance. He has backed the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma, who are enduring a pale form, in the test. Dhawan is likely to get a nod for the South Africa tour.</p>



<h2><strong>Venkatesh Iyer confirmed to travel to South Africa:</strong></h2>



<p>Another young player that has impressed the selectors is all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. It seems like the southpaw has also confirmed his berth for the South Africa ODIs.</p>



<p>Iyer has mustered two centuries in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. On his part, he has also scalped a few wickets to show his all-rounder skills. Though, as of now, he doesn?t seem to be a perfect replacement for Hardik Pandya, however, Iyer is convinced to take up the finisher's role for India.</p>



<p>"Venkatesh is surely going to South Africa. He is bowling 9 or 10 overs in every game and with Hardik still recuperating, it is the best time to give him chance and get him battle-ready for the bigger events ahead," a BCCI source privy to selection committee discussion told PTI on Sunday.</p>

<p>Venkatesh Iyer?s career has been nothing short of a fairytale. From going unnoticed for several years to getting an India cap in a very short time, it's been a fruitful journey for the Indian all-rounder. Iyer came into the picture following his blitz IPL 2021 UAE leg. The cricketer accumulated 370 runs in just 10 matches and helped KKR to overturn its fortunes in the tournament.</p>



<p>Soon owing to his brilliant form, Iyer was named in India's limited-overs squad and now he has been considered as a viable option to replace Hardik Pandya in India's white-ball team.</p>



<p>For the last two years, Hardik Pandya has struggled a lot to regain his lost fitness, and the all-rounder has consistently failed to pose himself fit. The poor fitness of Hardik has opened doors for Venkatesh Iyer, who is enjoying doing the finishing role in the team.</p>



<p>The Indian management is keen on grooming Iyer as team India?s new finisher and the work has already begun.</p>



<p>Iyer in his recent conversation revealed that he used to play in the middle orders and is completely known to the territory.&nbsp;</p>



<p>?I?ve batted in the middle-order for a long time. I?ve been an opener for just the past two years. Even in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy I batted in the middle order, so it won?t be a new territory for me,? said Venkatesh Iyer.</p>



<p>Iyer further added that he is ready to shape himself into a finisher in team India.</p>

It was my first season, and I went in with the mindset to enjoy each and every moment in it, irrespective of whatever happens, the numbers, rather than put pressure on myself by expecting too much. I was happier that my team rose from No 7 to ultimately playing in the final.?</p>



<p>Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a dismal outing during the India leg of the IPL 2021. The two times IPL champions were hanging in the penultimate position with just two wins from seven matches. However, the turn in fate came when the UAE leg commenced.</p>

However, there is a great chance that Shreyas will be on the flight to Australia this year. <p>Hardik Pandya is a serious candidate for the number 6 position. They were dependent on the likes of Shivam Mavi to get the job done, but if they find a way to get Shardul in the mix, he will do two jobs. Shardul can certainly bat at number 7 or 8 in any T20 team. If any manager has concerns regarding his batting, they can watch his innings at the Gabba or the one in England.??</p>



<p>Shardul Thakur?s batting is very underrated and it needs to be backed. If a team can give him a well-defined role with the bat, he can do wonders for the team. The team will then have a bank of 4-overs with a good pinch-hitter. Shardul has the knack for picking wickets. He bowls a few overs in the powerplay and a few in the middle overs when the game is boring. If a captain is looking for a wicket-taking option, they can pick Shardul. ?</p>



<p>Shardul is a daring bowler and does not worry about pitching the ball up. We cannot risk giving him the death overs but he does more than enough in the middle and powerplay overs. He has a good slower-one and a great wide yorker. &nbsp;</p>



<h2>3) Venkatesh Iyer will play for Kolkata Knight Riders in TATA IPL 2023:?</h2>

<p>Rather than looking around, the KKR team needs to effectively use Venkatesh Iyer. The first year of this break-through performer was too good. He was an unexposed commodity and was tonking the bowlers for fun. He belted the likes of Bumrah, Rabada, and even Rashid Khan. His sophomore year, however, was a little tough. The teams saw him struggle a bit against the short ball and capitalized on that. &nbsp;</p>



<p>But the KKR management did not back him in his period of failure. They immediately switched his roles and made him a finisher. That?s not the ideal thing to do with your retained player. He was also dropped later. And at the far end of the tournament, it was Venky who got the runs for them. So, if Venky feels he is mismanaged, he can decide to put his name in the auction. The thing is that KKR management needs to manage the player well as he has a lot to offer. He is a bank of 2 to 3 overs as well. ?</p>
