In the recently concluded T20I series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Babar Azam was not a part. The Pakistan Cricket team had the opening pair of Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris, as Babar was rested. But most cricket analysts say that the PCB must ensure that Babar bats at number 3 in T20Is. The number 3 position is like glue in the T20 format. The argument was based on Babar Azam?s strike rate. Ameer Sohail said, ?I don?t care about the strike rate what I am looking for is the average. If I am looking at the best players in T20 cricket like Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers, what is the strike rate like 135, 130??. ?

To which Simon Doull strongly replied, ?No it?s 158 for Chirs Gayle and 150 for AB De Villiers. Sorry, it is 145 for AB De Villiers, what is Babar?s?? He further added, ?Babar Azam?is hands down the best #3 batsman in the world. He should not open for Pakistan. Saim and Haris should open with Rizwan in T20Is.??

According to him, Rohit Sharma will be opening the innings alongside young Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-right combination at the top might come in handy for the team in the game.?



Shubman Gill has been drafted at No.3 by Simon Doull. The young batter recently expressed his desire to bat at 3 and team management gave him the position after Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from the team. He would be hoping to make a statement in the first game itself.?

The former Kiwi player then backed Shreyas Iyer to bat at No.5 in the series. This will be the first time Iyer will be playing a Test since February this year.&nbsp;



Doull backed KL Rahul to be a keeper in the team and bat at No.6 in the first IND vs SA. To keep the performance up with bat as well the gloves will be a challenge for Rahul in the game. Ravindra Jadeja makes it into Simon?s 11 and what surprised many was he also picked R Ashwin.&nbsp;



R Ashwin usually doesn?t get to play in overseas conditions as India prefers four-seamers. But Doull believes that Jadeja and Ashwin will get the nod ahead of the fourth pacer. T20 World Cup 2024: There's no stopping cricket in the coming few months. The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) is already underway and post its completion, there will be the onset of the T20 World Cup 2024. It wouldn't be wrong to say that the IPL 2024 and the auditions for the T20 World Cup 2024 are running parallel for Team India.



The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel must be working overtime, keeping them glued to the IPL 2024 action for the player selection. The major conundrum for them would be the pick between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order alongside captain Rohit Sharma.



24-year-old Shubman Gill has already announced his arrival in the IPL 2024 with his sublime unbeaten knock of 89 runs in 48 deliveries against Punjab Kings (PBKS), last night. However, this doesn't make the situation easy for the selectors.



Interestingly, Gill was the orange cap holder of the TATA IPL 2023, having scored 890 runs in 17 innings of the T20 tournament. He batter has scored 355 runs in his T20I career in 14 innings at a strike rate of 147.57. 



Despite all such magical numbers, things appear to be pale for Shubman Gill as far as his place in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad is concerned.



Shubman Gill is directly competing with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order in T20Is. Being a left-handed dynamic opener, he provides a more versatile option to the Indian team. He seems to be more attacking and can have a go right from ball one in T20Is.



Seasoned broadcaster and former cricketer Simon Doull reckons Shubman Gill's direct competition is Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top order in the Indian side for the T20 World Cup 2024. 



"Not yet. No, no, no," started off Doull, on Cricbuzz, when asked if Gill made the T20 World Cup squad after his knock of 89 against Punjab.



"He's got a, you know, I mean, that spot up the top when you take in a World Cup 15. It should be 18 in my opinion. But when you're taking that side and you're picking it, you really only carry one extra top-order batter. You've probably only room for one top-order replacement batter if it happens to be someone like KL Rahul, who can keep wickets for you. And that is a real bonus. That top-order replacement batter, he keeps, Shubman doesn't keep. And if he can't make the side ahead of Jaiswal, Rohit and Virat at the moment, he probably doesn't go," he explained.



Notably, India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad is likely to be announced at the end of April. The selection committee, which is keeping a close watch on the action across the IPL, is anticipated to make some surprising moves as well.

IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya has some serious allegations thrown at him after his team's recent outing against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024. Former Kiwi player, at present broadcaster, Simon Doull believes Hardik Pandya is injured and is not revealing it to anybody to remain in the contention for Team India's T20 World Cup squad.



Notably, all this happened, after Hardik Pandya didn't bowl for his side in the last few matches of the IPL 2024. The all-rounder opened the bowling for his team in the first game against Gujarat Titans (GT). In the very next fixture, he bowled the second over and completed his spell of 4 overs.



However, in the next two games against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), Hardik didn't even bowl a single over for his side, which raised concerns about his fitness as a bowler.



In Mumbai's recent fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Hardik Pandya bowled the 10th over of the innings, which went for 13 runs. He didn't return to roll his arm again in the game.



After the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Simon Doull pointed out that Hardik Pandya has some sort of injury, which is preventing him from bowling. 



?You go out and make a statement by opening the bowling in the game no. 1, and suddenly, you are not required. He's [Hardik Pandya] injured. I'm telling you there is something wrong with him. He is not admitting it. But there is something wrong with him for sure. That is my gut feeling,? said Simon Doull speaking to Cricbuzz post the MI vs RCB fixture.



Doull was also not convinced to see Hardik Pandya in the Indian T20 World Cup squad just as a pure batter. When his fellow panellist, Harsha Bhogle, pointed out that if Hardik could turn up for the team as a pure batter, Doull shook his head in disagreement.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hardik Pandya Injury's Brief Timeline</h2>

Hardik Pandya's injury has been the talk of the town for quite a long time. A good part of his peak cricket form has been eaten up by the injury concerns. When his stocks took an upward ride back in 2018 as an explosive all-rounder and finisher, he copped a major blow in his lower back.



After the subsequent surgery and recovery, he suffered another injury in 2019 owing to which he missed many matches on his side. He has been on and off the field between 2019 and 2023, and in those outings, he has mostly been available as a pure batter. Very seldom the cricketer has provided his bowling services to the team.



A very unfortunate ankle injury kept him away from the field from October 2023 to March 2024. The all-rounder didn't take part in any of the domestics and kept his focus glued to his recovery. He missed Team India's white-ball assignments in the lead-up to the IPL 2024 as well due to the injury.



So far in the TATA IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya has looked fine. In the few overs he bowled, he hasn't felt any serious issue. However, his no-bowling stance in the last few matches has created a big fuss among the fans. However, all the shadows of doubts will be cleared in the upcoming matches for Mumbai Indians.



Mumbai Indians (MI) will show up at the Wankhede Stadium on April 14 against the arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL </a>2024 match number 29.
