Pleasing News for England! Captain Ben Stokes likely to return in the 2nd Test-Match versus Pakistan: After securing an easy win in the first Test-Match match in Multan, England will be receiving yet another good news as their full-time Test skipper Ben Stokes, who was absent from the opening Test-Match due to a hamstring-injury is anticipated to return in the second encounter of the series.



According to some news-reports, Stokes is focussing on returning to full match-fitness levels and the captain of the Three Lions is likely to feature in the 2nd match of the Three-match Test-Series, provided no mishaps take place.



The 33-year-old tore his hamstring back in August during the Hundred tournament and while he was picked in England's test squad for the Pakistan series, he failed to heal on time and thereby he didn't take part in the opening Test-Match.



England's stand-in skipper Ollie Pope, in an interview with UK based Sky Sports, provided an update regarding the status of Stokes's injury and while he didn't mention anything regarding the process of recovery, the 26-year-old smiled when he was asked if Stokes will make a comeback in the 2nd Test-Match Or not. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Who's place will Stokes take in the Starting XI if he makes a comeback in the 2nd Test-Match?</h2>



The most obvious choice here is England's Stand-in-skipper Ollie Pope. He was the only English batsman who wasn't able to contribute much with the bat in the Multan Test-Match and should be dropped if Stokes makes a return in the 2nd Test-Match.



The other English batters, including the injured opening batter Ben Duckett performed well and as a result, won't be dropped in favor of Stokes.



Another bold move which the Three lions can make is by replacing Shoaib Bashir with Stokes in the Starting XI. The 33-year-old can contribute with both bat and ball and this can prove to be a good option for England. Plus, Shoaib didn't have a good outing with the ball as he picked up just a single wicket and proved very costly by giving away 124 runs.



The Third option would be to bring Stokes in the side in place of Chris Woakes. But, that move will happen only if Stokes will be allowed to bowl. If he can play as a proper All-Rounder, then he can replace Woakes.

England?s Cricket Governing Body, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced England?s 16-member <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/pakistans-predicted-squad-for-the-upcoming-tour-of-australia-babar-in-rizwan-as-captain/" title="squad for the" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">squad for the</a> team's upcoming Test-Series tour of New Zealand on Tuesday, 29th of October.



The Kiwis and the Three Lions will be battling it out against each other in a three-match Test-Series in the months of November &amp; December.



The squad of the Ben Stokes-led team features an exciting new addition in the form of 21-year-old wonderkid Jacob Bethell, a talented Batting All-rounder hailing from Warwickshire. Bethell has been handed his debut five-day format call-up after making his debut in One Day International and T20 International earlier this year.



Bethell, who is well-known for his aggressive intent with the bat and skilled left-arm spin bowling, gained the attention of the English selectors versus Australia and now he's set to make his debut in the longest format of the game as well.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith will be absent from the tour of New Zealand due to his paternity leave responsibilities.



Since Jamie will be busy in welcoming his first kid in to this world, Cox will be taking his place in the team and will be making his maiden Test appearance as the wicketkeeper-batsman of the Ben Stokes-led team in the forthcoming three-match Test Series versus the 2021 WTC winners, starting from 28th of November onwards in the Hagley Oval Stadium of Christchurch.



Apart from this, no other changes have been made in England?s Test-Squad and it's similar to their squad versus Pakistan.

Australia and England are playing the first test match of the Ashes 2025 at Perth Stadium. However, Australian star pacer Mitchell Starc is dominating with his sensational bowling in the first Test against England in Perth. He took 7 wickets in just 12.5 overs with an economy rate of 4.52 and led England to an all-out at just 172 runs in their first innings.
Australian bowlers completely outsmarted English batters, and they showed great cricketing skills. However, Harry Brook and Ollie Pope tried to play a big knock but got out by scoring 52 and 46 runs, respectively. England’s star batter Joe Root got out at duck, but all credit goes to Starc, who bowled an exceptional spell.

This was not just personal best figures for Starc but also the best Test bowling figures at the Perth Stadium. England need to tackle Mitchell Starc if they want to win this series else he is in rhythm and going to rule the Ashes 2025 with his exceptional bowling skills.

Mitchell Starc’s strength is his ability to generate sharp bounce and swing, both at high pace, makes it more lethal. For England’s batters, especially when they are facing the new ball in Australia’s fast and bouncy conditions, it feels like a nightmare.
Starc also swings the ball both ways, and with his left-arm angle, the ball mostly targets the stumps and pads, which makes things tough for batters. Most interestingly, Starc is known for keeping his line and length the same, which helps him to get early wickets.
<h2 dir="ltr">What can England do?</h2>
England has always struggled against left-arm pacers like Starc in Australia. However, their latest approach is Bazball to win matches in test cricket but sometimes, the pitch demands more patience and stick to your basics. Therefore, England usually loses test matches on these tracks because they lose their wickets easily.
<h3 dir="ltr">To Counter Starc:</h3>
1. England’s top order needs to respect his opening spells, especially with the new ball; aggression won’t help English batters to dominate bowlers like Starc in Australian conditions.
2. Batters must stick to their basics, play ball under their eyes, and leave deliveries outside off stump.
3. Targeting other Australian bowlers like Scott Boland or debutant <a href="https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/brendan-doggett-931603">Brendan Doggett</a> for runs, which indeed batters like Harry Brook and Jamie Smith did in the first innings.
4. Most importantly, rotating strikes and not letting the Starc settle into a rhythm will also put pressure on Starc due to constantly changing the line and length.
