Vivo IPL 2021: Australian pacer Nathan Ellis has bagged a huge IPL contract ahead of the second phase of the Vivo IPL 2021, which is scheduled to be held in the UAE. The contract came after he was named as one of the three reserve players Australia will carry with them for the <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/womens-t20-world-cup-final-2024-full-squads-probable-playing11s-and-pitch-report-of-dubai-international-cricket-stadium/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> 2021.



Cricket.com.au confirmed that the pacer was tracked by the three IPL franchises to complete their paceman requirements before Ellis signed a contract with an unnamed franchise. The worth of the contract along with the name of the franchise is not revealed.



"Ellis was being chased by three IPL franchises <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/citing-security-reasons-india-denies-travelling-to-pakistan-for-the-upcoming-champions-trophy-matches-are-to-be-shifted-to-dubai/" title="for the upcoming" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">for the upcoming</a> tournament before agreeing to terms with an unnamed team on Thursday,? stated cricket.com.au.



Ellis will travel with his Australian mates for the T20 World Cup as the reserve pacer. The World Cup is scheduled in Oman and UAE following the completion of the IPL 2021.

It is noteworthy that Ellis picked a T20I hat-trick on his debut game and became the only cricketer to scalp a hat-trick in a debut T20I match. Now he is the third Australian after Brett Lee and Ashton Agar to fetch a T20I hat-trick.



Nathan Ellis picked up Mahdmullah, Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman in the three final deliveries of the match to complete his hat-trick against Bangladesh.



The approval from Cricket Australia is yet to come for Nathan?s participation in the IPL 2021. Though it is just a formality as CA is willingly giving the No Objection Certificates (NOC) to its IPL bound cricketers.



Ellis went unsold in the IPL 2021 mini auctions held earlier this year in January.

Vivo IPL 2021: The newly rebranded Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Friday signed Australian pacer Nathan Ellis <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/citing-security-reasons-india-denies-travelling-to-pakistan-for-the-upcoming-champions-trophy-matches-are-to-be-shifted-to-dubai/" title="for the upcoming" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">for the upcoming</a> leg of the Vivo IPL 2021. Ellis is also picked by Cricket Australia as a reserve player for the Twenty20 World Cup 2021.



The development came soon after the franchise, Punjab Kings, learnt about the unavailability of Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith. The two cricketers have <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/ind-vs-aus-this-star-indian-batter-has-been-ruled-out-of-the-first-test-match-against-australia/" title="been ruled out" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">been ruled out</a> of the second leg of the Vivo IPL 2021.

PBKS confirmed the development and also informed that the franchise was totally unaware of the unavailability of Richardson and Meredith until yesterday. The announcement came after Cricket Australia?s (CA?s) press conference held a day before.



"We were not aware of the fitness status of Jhye and Riley until yesterday," Punjab Kings team's CEO Satish Menon said, confirming the signing to Cricbuzz. "We have signed Ellis as a replacement player. We will announce the second replacement in a day or two," PBKS CEO said.



"We are in talks with a few players. Anil (Kumble, the head coach) will finalise one soon."

Ellis, who has been a new signing for PBKS, picked up a brilliant hat-trick in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh. He removed Mahdmullah, Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman in the final deliveries of the match to complete his hattrick. Nathan Ellis is the only cricketer to have a hat-trick on a T20I debut.



It is also noteworthy that Ellis went unsold in the January mini Auctions held of the IPL 2021.



The IPL franchises will now look to cover all its areas left due to the unavailability of the players. A few key players have been injured and will not take part in the upcoming season of the IPL while a few are skipping the tournament due to their personal reasons.



Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Jofra Archer was earlier ruled out for the entire year due to elbow injury while KKR pacer Pat Cummins will not participate in the tournament as he and his wife are expecting their first baby.

According to him, Pathirana has been progressing at a very slow rate, and it is difficult to count on him in the yellow jersey as of now.

Though skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is still awaiting to give an official statement on his injury update, Nathan Ellis might still be part of the 11 featuring in place of Pathirana until the Lankan pacer recovers.
