Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: The time has come when the hype of the India vs Australia Test rivalry fires up the global cricket enthusiast. Ponting has kicked off the chain event with his bold statement of the prediction of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 where INDIA vs AUSTRALIA fight in a multi-match bilateral Test series. 



Unlike the other cricketing events between India and Australia, India have enjoyed a far better dominance over Australia in the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Be it home series, or away, India had the upper hand, and especially in the last four series, the Men in Blue have won all four series 2-1.

The BCCI and Cricket Australia came to an agreement to extend the four-match test series to a five-match Test series and from now onwards, the two teams will play five test matches every two years for sure and this year, the two teams will take bout in December and January.



Now, the ICC Hall of Fame and Former Australian Captain have made an early call for the winner of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Though the two teams are highly competitive in nature and have often shown their rigid character, Ponting thinks his home team is going to take the series one-sided.

During a recent episode of The ICC Review, Ponting discussed his forecasts for the series while chatting with host Sanjana Ganesan. He said "I'm obviously going to tip Australia to win and I'm never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I'm going to say 3-1 to Australia."



He confidently went with Australia and before that, he even showed the weight of the Gravitas of the two teams in test cricket while putting his support to Australia. He also emphasized on a note that 'Australia got a point to prove'.

"It's going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what's happened the last the last two series here," he added.



He also liked the idea of a 5-match Test series and said "We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It?s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone's really excited by that and I don't know if there'd be too many drawn games."

However, if we take a look at the history of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India have won it as many as 11 times out of 16 while Australia has 5 trophies on their cabinet. 



When we come to the matches, Australia do have better numbers but not better than India. Out of a total of 56 matches played between these two nations in the BGT, India have won 24 matches and Australia won 20 while 12 ended in a draw.

The series is scheduled to be played in the last month of the year and we can just wait for the results.

IND vs AUS:On December 23, Monday, India made a surprising move as they named the 26-year-old uncapped all-rounder from Mumbai, Tanush Kotian, as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad. Ashwin announced a sudden international retirement after the end of the third test match at the Gabba. That left India with one player short.
On Monday, the BCCI confirmed that Kotian is all set to fly to Melbourne to join the Indian team ahead of the upcoming Boxing Day Test match. With the series levelled at 1-1, India and Australia are all set to face each other in the fourth test, which will begin on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It was a surprise inclusion for many, as India had other proven options like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, who were not named in the first-choice squad for various reasons. But India backed the uncapped all-rounder, which raised a number of questions on his selection. India could have given more experienced bowlers a chance.

India used all three spinners in the first three games. Though it might be difficult for Kotian to get a game, Rohit Sharma revealed why he was given more preference than other experienced spinners.
In the pre-match press conference, Rohit revealed the reason for Kotian's inclusion and also shed light on the availability of Axar and Kuleep. He said, “Tanush Kotian played here in Australia a month back. Kuldeep, I don't think he has a visa, and he is not 100% fit. Axar had a baby recently. Tanush is ready; we really want a backup in case we need two spinners here or Sydney. Tanush has shown what he's capable of."
The 26-year-old has played all three formats in the Indian domestic sector and is a regular member of the Mumbai team. He has a pretty handy first-class record as well with bat and ball. He has 101 wickets in 33 FC games and scored 1525 runs at an average of 41.21.
In the recent Ranji Trophy, he featured in ten matches and scored 502 runs at an average of 41.83. With the ball, he took 29 wickets at an excellent average of 16.91. He is expected to travel to Melbourne on Tuesday. Meanwhile, India need to win the remaining two games to make it to the final of the World Test Championship. If they lose even one game, it will be difficult for them to bounce back.

Day 3 of the fifth Test between India and Australia at SCG brought the end to a long one and a half months of your. Australia's one-decade-long wait to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has finally ended as they have beaten India in the final test by six wickets to clinch the BGT trophy 3-1. Yashasvi Jaiswal was India's best batter in this series. It was his first time in Australia, and he showed that he has it all to perform in tough conditions.
Jaiswal finished with the second-most runs after Travis Head and scored 391 runs at an average of 43.44 with one hundred and two half-centuries. He has been in good form, and India can look to cash in on his form in the coming Champions Trophy 2025.
2. Evolution of Nitish Kumar Reddy 
Another man who impressed everyone was young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Though his five wickets at an average of 38 don't do justice for him, it was his first tour, too, his debut series. He showed great maturity with his bat and scored 298 runs at an average of 37.25.
Nitish played some good innings under pressure. India can groom him to become a match-winning all-rounder, and in white-ball cricket, he can be very handy. Certainly, he has given selectors an option for the Champions Trophy 2025, along with Hardik Pandya.
3. Identification of Problem 
India's poor batting form became the reason of consecutive test series defeat. Especially, the form of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill became the taking points.
But in some ways it is good sign that the problems have been identify and now the management can work with these guys to regain their form. Because these are part of India's core batting unit for the Champions Trophy 2025.
