ICC Women's T20 World Cup: The International Cricket Council has made an exciting decision to expand the number of teams participating in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2030! This bold move highlights the ICC's dedication to empowering and growing women's cricket on the global stage.



Since 2009, the ICC has been working tirelessly to elevate women's cricket, which is evident from the introduction of the Women's T20 World Cup just two years after the men's inaugural tournament. This latest development is a thrilling step forward in continuing that legacy!

The passion and participation of women in cricket have skyrocketed since then! The first edition featured 8 teams, as cricket wasn?t widely popular among women in many countries. In 2014, the ICC expanded the tournament by adding two more teams for the fourth edition.



For the last five editions, the Women's World Cup in the shortest format has included 10 teams. While the ICC had already committed to increasing this number to 12 in the 2026 tournament, they have now made an even bolder commitment this time around!



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">ICC Women's T20 World Cup Expansion</h4>



"The ICC Board has approved an expansion of the ICC Women?s T20 World Cup to 16 teams in 2030, aligning with its ongoing commitment to equity between the men?s and women?s games," ICC wrote.



Additionally, the Board has announced that the qualification cut-off date for the 2026 edition will be October 31, 2024!

The Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) has also confirmed an exciting new allocation of eight regional qualifying spots for the ICC Men?s T20 World Cup 2026. Under this innovative structure, two teams each will qualify from Africa and Europe, one from the Americas, and three from a combined Asia and EAP regional final.



This is a significant change from the previous structure, where Asia had two spots and EAP had one. What an exhilarating step forward for the tournament! 



Overall, it is very exciting and commendable step from ICC to expand the number of teams participating in the women's sport.

ICC punishes Pakistan and Bangladesh with heavy punishment after the PAKISTAN vs BANGLADESH 1st Test due to the breach in the ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22. Shakib Al Hasan was also penalized for his aggression on the field.

The first-ever test loss to Bangladesh in the history of cricket, the pain and agony in Pakistan's heart is all understandable. The ex-cricketers and cricket pundits in Pakistan are criticizing the decisions made on-field by skipper Shan Masood. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="icc-slapped-pakistan-and-bangladesh">ICC Slapped Pakistan and Bangladesh</h2>



If the anguish of losing the test and the bad decisions wasn't enough, the ICC have imposed heavy duties on Pakistan and Bangladesh for breach of the ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22. 



Ranjan Madugalle, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, issued penalties after determining that Pakistan were six overs short of the required target and Bangladesh were three overs short, taking into account the allotted time allowances.

As a result, Pakistan have been fined 30% of their match fees and docked six points in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have been fined 15% of their match fees and lost three WTC points for failing to maintain the required over-rate during the first Test in Rawalpindi.



According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over their team falls short of the target within the allotted time.



Additionally, under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, teams lose one point for every over they fall short.



Captains Shan Masood of Pakistan and Najmul Hossain Shanto of Bangladesh admitted to the breaches and agreed to the proposed penalties, eliminating the need for formal hearings.

Shakib al Hasan has been known for losing his temper on the field and here we saw it happening again. In the first test, Shakib was bowling to Rizwan and as Shakib was just about to deliver the ball, Rizwan withdrew from his stance. Meanwhile, Shakib lost his cool and threw the ball directly towards the Wicketkeeper and Batter.

However, there was no harm to any player or property but throwing the ball towards the player without any runout attempt is considered as an offense of Level 1. 



As per Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match."



Shakib is handed a 10% fine of his match fees for this behavior. Thankfully no players and skippers are handed a match ban. The second test of the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024 is set to commence on August 30.

Cricket's global governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, 24th of December announced the official schedule and fixture list of the upcoming ICC Mega-Event, the 2025 Champions Trophy. The competition, featuring the top eight One-Day International teams, will be played between 19th of February to 9th of March, with matches to be help in Dubai and Pakistan. 
The opening fixture of the tournament will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand in the city of Karachi as both teams will be kicking off the tournament. A total of 15 games will be played over a span of 19 days, with the city's of Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi playing host to the games in Pakistan. UAE's Dubai will also host several encounters, including the all-important group-stage phase contests of the Indian Cricket Team and the first semi-final as well. 
The all-important Final is scheduled to be played on the 9th of March in the city of Lahore, unless Team India qualifies for the marquee match, in which case the summit clash will be shifted to Dubai. Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days if rain interrupts the proceedings of the contests.
The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match will be played on the 23rd of February in Dubai, which is also going to be a highlight of the competition. Other key matches include Australia vs England on the 22nd of February in the city of Lahore and South Africa vs Afghanistan in Karachi on 21st of February. 
Each of the three Pakistani venues will play host to three group-stage encounters, with Lahore also set to host the 2nd Semi-Final. The Dubai leg of the Champions Trophy kicks off on 20th February, with the Men in Blue squaring off versus Asian-rivals Bangladesh. 
The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy will witness the top eight teams from the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup competing versus each other to get their hands on the prestigious Trophy. Fans are eagerly waiting for this exciting tournament, with hosts Pakistan aiming to defend their title.

ICC changes powerplay rules for men’s T20 Internationals, making shortened matches more balanced. Starting July 2025, the powerplay length in reduced-over games will now be set to the nearest ball, not the nearest over. 
This tweak, approved by the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, keeps the powerplay close to 30% of the innings. For example, an 8-over match now gets 2.2 overs of powerplay. Fans are excited, saying this makes rain-affected games fairer for both batters and bowlers.
<h2 dir="ltr">What’s the New Rule?</h2>
ICC changes powerplay rules to make T20Is fairer when matches are cut short. From July 2025, powerplay overs will be rounded to the nearest ball, not over. In a full 20-over game, the first six overs are powerplay with only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. 
For an 8-over match, it’s now 2.2 overs (13 balls), not 3.<a href="https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/icc-tweaks-powerplay-rules-for-shortened-t20is-in-men-s-cricket-1492013"> ESPNcricinfo</a> says this keeps the powerplay at about 30% of the game. 
<h2 dir="ltr">Why the Change Matters</h2>
ICC changes powerplay rules because the old way wasn’t balanced. Rounding to the nearest over, like three overs for a 9-over game, gave too much powerplay time (33%). Now, a 9-over match gets 2.4 overs (14 balls), closer to 30%. 
ICC notes this matches England’s T20 Blast, where mid-over powerplay ends work fine.
How It Works in Matches
ICC changes powerplay rules with a clear table. A 5-over game gets 1.3 overs of powerplay, six overs get 1.5, and 10 overs get 3. For a 15-over match, it’s 4.3 overs. 
ESPNcricinfo explains that umpires signal the end after a set number of balls, like after two balls in the third over for an 8-over game. This lets three more fielders move out. 
<h2 dir="ltr">Other Big ICC Updates</h2>
ICC changes powerplay rules alongside other tweaks. Test matches now use a stop clock to speed up play, giving teams 60 seconds to start a new over. 
Saliva on the ball is still banned, but umpires won’t always change it unless it’s too wet or shiny. ICC says teams must name concussion substitutes before matches.
