The IPL franchise Delhi Capitals has been staying with the likes of Sourav Ganguly as their director of cricket while also having Ricky Ponting as their head coach. However, they have decided to part ways with both of these veterans for the upcoming season. Former Indian players like Venugopal Rao have been appointed as the new Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals while <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemang_Badani">Hemang Badani</a> will be taking over the position of new head coach after Ponting parted ways with the franchise having stepped in as the head coach for 7 seasons. Venugopal Rao replaces Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian great, from his role on the Delhi side. These decisions have been made by the DC owners to make an advancement in the coaching staff as well as structure, who have not been able to produce a title win in the IPL.

 The franchise will also look to renew the contract of Pravin Amre, who will continue to serve as an assistant coach and talent scout back in 2014. Now, the GMR and JSW groups will swap roles of ownership for either of their IPL and WPL teams every two seasons. Though Venugopal Rao is now the new Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Sourav Ganguly will continue in the role of Director of Cricket in the WPL for the next two seasons while he will return as the DOC of Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2027, when JSW Sports will be back in charge of the team.

The former Indian player who has had a long domestic career playing for Tamil Nadu, Hemang Badani has starred in four Tests and 40 matches for India in ODI cricket. They have been very successful in the domestic T20 circuit, as he was part of the Chennai Super Kings camp for the initial years in the IPL. In a localized T20 franchise-level tournament in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Badani coached the 3-times title winner of the TNPL, Chepauk Super Gillies. Badani has contributed largely to the development of players like R Sai Kishore, the IPL star and current Tamil Nadu captain.

Hemang, though not known by many, has had immense experience in international overseas T20 leagues, as he stood as the assistant coach of Sunrisers Eastern Cape for SA20 2023, the inaugural season where they were crowned champions. Also, he coached the Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League. Hemang Badani will assume duties under GMR groups, as he has previously head-coached the Dubai Capitals side in the ILT20, where the franchise finished as the runner-up. Also, the Seattle Orcas, the Major League Cricket team owned by the GMR group, is a franchise where Badani served as a coaching consultant.

According to reports made by the Times of India, Indian star wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant will not lead the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, and they have conveyed their source to be reliable. The latest reports from the TOI have also mentioned that the new coaching staff on the Delhi Capitals side are considering a new player in the role of a captain. Rishabh Pant might be replaced by the likes of teammate <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axar_Patel">Axar Patel</a>, as he is being considered as the next Capitals skipper. Not only Axar, but the Delhi Capitals would also be in quest of a new player who can be a reliable captaincy source in the IPL. The auction is supposed to take place at the end of November, in a possible venue like Dubai.

 However, Rishabh Pant is all set to be the franchise's top priority player in their retention list, with the highest slab of retention amount. It is just that the Delhi Capitals leadership group feel that he is much better without the pressure of captaincy. Hence, the new DC management looks to try him over completely as a batter. Though the Delhi Capitals have been a very convincing side, they last reached the playoffs back in IPL 2021 while the finals of 2020 was their best-ever finish where Shreyas Iyer was the skipper of the Delhi Capitals side. Back then Rishabh Pant was their second-highest scorer in the IPL for the Capitals alongside Shikhar Dhawan. After having led the Delhi Capitals initially, he missed the 2023 edition of the IPL and returned to the tournament after a horrific accident in 2022. Pant led the Delhi Capitals in the last season when they finished in the sixth position.

 There also is a possible option if Kolkata Knight Riders are ready to part ways with their IPL title-winning skipper back in 2024. Shreyas Iyer might be returning to the Capitals squad and leading them in the role of a skipper. The Delhi Capitals have recently named Hamang Badani as their head coach and hence there might be significant changes brought to the Capitals squad. Rightly, Indian World Cup winner, Munaf Patel might be considered for the role of bowling coach as a support staff in the Mumbai Indians camp.

Former England captain and player Kevin Pietersen is all set to make his comeback in the IPL, not as a player but as a coach as he's set to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) as their mentor for IPL 2025. The 44-year-old will be partnering up with the likes of Matthew Mott (Assistant Coach), Hemang Badani (Head Coach), Venugopal Rao (Director of Cricket) and Munaf Patel (Bowling Coach) in the support staff of the franchise. 
The franchise, which made the official announcement on their application, has not appointed a captain yet for the upcoming season of the cash rich T20 league. 
This assignment with DC will be the first ever coaching assignment in the IPL for Pietersen. He last played in the cash rich t20 league nine years ago in 2016. The 44-year-old represented three IPL franchises from 2009 to 2016, including the Delhi based team and had even handled the captaincy duties for the team 17 times.

After captaining the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a brief period of time in the 2009 edition of the IPL, he was appointed as the full time skipper of DC in 2014, where they finished at the last place, managing to secure just two wins in 14 contests.
The legendary English batter has also captained England 15 times, including the two-match Test Series versus the Indian National Cricket Team in 2008. Besides the IPL, the former right handed batter has also played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL). Overall, he has featured in 200 t20 matches, amassing a total of 5,695 runs at a decent average of 33.89 and a strike rate of 136.
The Delhi Capitals, who have qualified for the final of the IPL on just a single occasion in 2020, finished sixth in the overall standings last season and they went into this year's mega auction with one of the biggest purse among all the ten participating teams after releasing majority of their players and retaining the services of only Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs. 
They added the likes of Harry Brook, former LSG skipper KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc and Faf du Plessis to their squad in the mega auction and overall, the team of DC is looking really strong.
