SL vs PAK 12-Over Match: Shanaka’s Late Assault Powers Sri Lanka to Victory
A rain-hit evening turned into a high-scoring thriller as Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in a shortened 12-over contest. After a long delay of more than two hours, both teams walked out with bagfull of intent and aggression. With a wet outfield and a slippery ball, bowlers struggled, batters attacked, and the crowd witnessed a proper run-fest.
Lanka's Powerpacked Batting
Sri Lanka’s innings was built on fearless batting from the very start. The top order played with freedom, keeping the run rate high despite losing wickets. Kusal Mendis, Kamil Mishara, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, and Janith Liyanage all chipped in with quick runs, ensuring the scoreboard kept moving at a pace. By the time the innings reached the final phase, Sri Lanka were already in a strong position.
Then came the captain, Dasun Shanaka, who completely changed the pace of the match. Walking in with less than four overs to go, he wasted no time. His bat swing was clean, his intent clear. He smashed 34 runs from just 9 balls, sending the ball deep into the stands again and again.
One over, in particular, stood out as he hammered three straight sixes, turning a good total into a massive one. Even though he got out near the end, the damage was done. Sri Lanka finished 160, at a scoring rate that put serious pressure on Pakistan.
Agha Counterattacked, But Hasaranga Thrived
Pakistan began the chase knowing they had to attack from ball one, and for a moment, it looked possible. Salman Agha played an explosive knock that lifted hopes in the Pakistani camp. He scored 45 runs from just 12 balls, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. Almost every delivery disappeared to the boundary, and his confidence was clear in his shot selection. For a few overs, momentum seemed to swing Pakistan’s way.
But Sri Lanka had an answer, and his name was Wanindu Hasaranga. Even with a wet ball, he bowled with control and courage. Pakistan had no option but to go after him, and that is where Hasaranga made the difference. He picked up four wickets in his three overs, each dismissal slowing the chase at the right time. The batters tried to clear the ropes, but the turn and pace he generated forced mistakes.
Pakistan kept fighting, but the required rate kept climbing. When Agha got out, the chase lost its spark. Sri Lanka’s bowlers held their nerve in the final overs and crossed the line with a well-earned win.
In the end, it was a match decided by bold batting and timely wickets. Sri Lanka adapted better to the conditions, and Shanaka’s late assault, followed by Hasaranga’s impact with the ball, proved too much for Pakistan on the night.
